VST GOSSJPABOUT PEOPLE w Nancy Wynne Wistibs the Joy of the Season to Her Readers She Talks of the Henry Brinton Coxe Ball Last Night at the Bellevue-Stratford Willi nil lifcr heart Nancy wishes j-ou n hoppy New Year. Can It be nnsWile that Nvfr nro in the twenties? whenever we hnve heard members of older generations spealc nf the twenties thirties and forties we have felt as If that hUtory were almost too nnelcnt to think of, and yet some fifty rnr from now the younjr people of twenty or twentv-flve will he gasping over us, If we are fitlll HvliiK. unylnjr, "Look at that old person, hn or she was iriqwn up In the twenties." Ho It rocs I The thing for us to think nbont is not the span of the jears, but that the years we do live nhnll bn well spent, then It will have been worth while for u to have lived. WFAAj, even though It was the second ball this week, the Coxe bull was a wonder last night! The Uellevue ball room Is always wonderful with the ntnire raided from the floor and the extra room for dancing thusly allowed. Catherine did look sweet. She hns luch a charming manner, nnd W very pretty, I think; has unusually beauti fully chiseled features nnd very pretty hair, and she chooses such lovely colors for her frocks, Last night she wore white Mitin with silver trimmings, nnd Mrs. Coxc looked very handsome In light blue. .Air. nnd Mrs. Charles F. Adams, the latter .Mrs. uoxe s sister, and Catherine nnd Charles Adams, all of Boston, were tnerc, anu, 01 course, airs. Standley Stokes, who was Ituth Coxe. ftfrs. Adams woro a handsome gown of black velvet. The ballroom was .wimfpil with ferns and greens and the (upper tables were gay with flowers and ferns. IpONIGHT there will be a debutante JX dance at the Ritz-Carlton given by Mrs. Morris Dallett for her daughter Margaret. The guests will be of the debutante and younger married set. Margaret is a daughter of the late .Turfc Dallett. of this city. She is a charming little girl. Her sister, Marie Dallett, married Randall Pennington several years ago. She is a vory strik ing type of wo.man, having wonderful Titinn hair. Margaret .is dancer, win auourn lights through r lovely curly head of tinir T often ndmlrcd her at the younger classes before she came out wearing ner simple nine urguumi; frocks. She and the Harrison girls and one or two others were walking acknowledgments or tneir motners good sense and good taste. None of these gowns with no sleeves and a two inch back! To tell the truth. I think some of the girls nrc beginning to think a lit tle and realize that they please no species of person by not wearing enough clothes. Of course, it's not stylish to talk nbout morals, but the fact that it's vulgar seems to have a little bit of an effect, and a. the recent balls the undressing has been on the wane. In fact, at the Benedicks I saw noth ing objectionable in regard to gowns or manner of dancing. THE Art Alliance will have a wonder ful time this afternoon. Thero is to be a New Year's reception from 4 until 7 o'clock. Philip Goepp and Miss Susanne Dercum. who were on the music committee of the Alliance, ar ranged an intercitinft program and will be aisisted by a number of men and women who represent the various as relations which form n part of the Art Alliance. The Mndrigal Singers, formed of prominent singers in various choirs throughout the citv, will sing under the direction of Henry Hotz. Mtb. W. Yorke Stevenson, Mrs. .Tolin H, Oakley, Mrs. A. Warren Kelsey, Mrs. John Braun, Mrs. Leopold Sto kowski and Miss Eleanor Rtewardson will receive the guests. As I said last week, I like that Art Alliance. I think It is an honor to the community. SOMETIMES little boys do hectic little things, don't they? They come up to the great, big cities and go to col lege in the suburbs, and then they come tft slifiTD nnrl eftrt flip, nrnttv nennlo In J the shows, and sometimes they do little hi ..: .i t -.-..i. v , was highly amused recently when a lit tle lady whom you know and I know, and who hns made a decided hit on the stage of late, told of a letter she had received from one of these infant "Johns" which begged for a photograph and inclosed a quarter for the postage. And Nancy's eyes twinkled when she heard the name of the swain, who ought almost to have been home and in bed by 8:30 each night. Anyway, the ad mired one kept the quarter and did not notice the note. More power to her! NANCY WYNNE.
