PURPOSE OF ISSUE
These bonds constitute the company's only indebtedness, other than nominal current ac
counts, and the proceeds of this bond issue will be utilized in acquiring additional quarry lands
and in providing for a material expansion oE manufacturing facilities. New business on the com
pany's books is largely in excess of its present capacity, due to the widespread activity in the
building industry.
SECURITY
Direct closed first mortgage on extensive quarry lands, together with four modern, com
pletely equipped manufacturing plants, located near Bedford and Bloomington, Indiana. These
properties have been appraised by the Coats & Burchard Company, Public Appraisers and En
gineers, at a reproductive value of $1,431,079.52 or more than four times the total bond issue.
BUSINESS
The Company has been successfully engaged for over thirty years in the quarrying, fabri
cating and marketing of Indiana Limestone,' known as the "Aristocrat of Building Materials," and
the product of its quarries has been used in the construction of many well-known public and private
building projects throughout the United States and Canada. Among the better known examples
are the new Union Passenger Terminal at Kansas City, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and
the Hotel Commodore at New York, the Auditorium Hotel and the Public Library at Chicago,
and the U. S. Post Office and Customs House and the Detroit Athletic Club at Detroit. The
Company's product has been largely used in building enterprises throughout the East, some of
the projects in and near Philadelphia with which it has been identified being the new Broadway.
Trust Company Building at Camden, New Jersey, the Western National Bank and Polytechnic Insti
tute at Baltimore, and the Corn Exchange National Bank, the Frankford and West Philadelphia High
Schools and the Liggett Memorial and Richardson Memorial Presbyterian churches at Philadelphia.
EARNINGS
The Company's earning power has been consistently demonstrated throughout the entire
period since the inception of the business in 188D, and net earnings for the years from 1903 to 1917,
inclusive, were annually in excess of three times the interest requirements of this bond issue. On
the basis of the business now on the Company's bjoks which is showing a steady increase net
earnings are at the rate of over seven times tho maximum bond interest requirements.
MANAGEMENT
The Company's affairs will continue under the same competent and experienced manage
ment which has been successful in the development of the business for many years and which has
built up a capable and aggressive organization numbering approximately 350 individuals.

The entire stock of the new company has been largely over

The entire promotion expense of this company amounted to
only about seven one-hundredths of one per cent, while in many
other organizations of a similar kind it has cost the stockholders
from twenty to twenty-five per cent promotion expenses.
It will be prepared to do business over the entire country on
the first of January, and it has already a large business awaiting
it, and with the management and prestige of the Fire Association,
its success is assured.

Realizing the effect of 'prohibi
tion on the already enormous
groioth of candy businesses, the
eyes of the investment world are
now focused on the candy and
sugar interests as investment
possibilities.
Already one company, whose issues
we control, is showing earnings of
over tivenly-fivc per cent on the com
mon after all tax deductions. And
other old line companies are report
ing similar results.
To answer the numerous inquiries
from investors we, as specialists in
candy and sugar issues, have prepared
an analytical and authoritative folder
on the candy and sugar industries
which will be sent free upon request.
This folder is of most timely interest

Tne Market for
5 French V ictory Bonds
Never before has it taken so many French francs
to buy an American dollar. For this reason dollars
will purchase French securities in the French
markets on remarkably favorable terms.
For example, should exchange return to normal the
5 French Victory Bonds would show a profit of
about 100 even if there were no increase in the
market prices here or abroad for the bonds.
It is so unusual to purchase a safe government
bond yielding a fixed rate of return which offers
such attractive speculative possibilities that we in
vite requests for further information contained in
our Circular Letter No. E-55.

buying developed nnd shorts covered.
This led to the reaching of some tann
ics orders to purchase. Disappointing
receipts, owing to 11 inck of rolling
stock, brought about tile demand that
caued the upturn.
Offerings from the coimtrr were
larger, and line elevators were reported
to be full in many instances. The crop
is known to be large nnd of exeellent
quality, but the fact remains that the
grain is not where it will sutisfy Chi
cago contracts. Toward the end the
feeling was more bearish.
Oats also receded lifter having ex
hibited strcni'th on buying influenced by
sales nf 200,(100 bushels here nnd of
100.000 bushels at outside points to ex
porters. Selling increased in the after
noon. The culi article wns easier, not
withstanding light receipts:.
It was said that the movement of
corn was being given preference over
oats. About 100.0QO bushel of rye were
sold for export nt 11 cents over May
here, track New York, or the highest
premium on the crop.

New York, Dee. '-''. The coffee fu

lot of May traded in 011 the call. Kirst

Official cables from Brazil were again
delayed, but private advices said that
the Bin market was l.'.O reis higher nnd
an advance in ltio exchange on London
of d.
The market was still without official
advices from Brazil up to midday. The
volume of business during the morning
was too small to suggest any specia'
