To All Americans Interested in
FLOUR
Let us prove that it is not true that our people are
reckless in personal expenditure and have no ideals
of thrift or social responsibility in this period of ex
travagant spending.
Thrift is common sense spending. Unwise
spending may not always indicate lack of thrift, but,
perhaps, ignorance, habit, or lack of opportunity.
The UNITED STATES GRAIN CORPORA
TION is now providing an opportunity for consum
ers of flour to exercise their personal choice in the
purchase of flour at moderate cost if they so desire.
By the middle of December the UNITED STATES
GRAIN CORPORATION will have placed in most
of our cities not already provided with similar flour
at similar prices suitable retail packages under the
name UNITED STATES GRAIN CORPORATION
STANDARD PURE WHEAT FLOUR. This flour
may be bought at retail at prices around 75c per 1 2
pound package and $1.50 per 24J2"Pund package.
Retailers may buy this flour anywhere in the
United States packed in paper sacks of the retail
package sizes, in carlots, at $10.43 per barrel, or
in cotton sacks, at $10.80; and in less than carlots,
in paper, at $1 1.15, or in cotton at $1 1.55.
UNITED STATES GRAIN CORPORATION
STANDARD PURE WHEAT FLOUR will also be
made available to bakers, packed in NO-pound jute
sacks in carlots, at a price of $10.25 per barrel.
It is very desirable that our people shift part of
their demand for flour from the product of the hard
spring wheats to the product of the soft winter
wheats, because nature this year reduced the spring
wheat crop by 1 50,000,000 bushels while increasing
the winter wheat crop about the same amount.
The soft wheat flours make excellent bread, and
consumers and bakers should not be misled by the
misrepresentations of mill salesmen or others seek
ing to discredit this appeal to the social conscience
of our people. There is no lack of wheat of the best
quality; 'UNITED STATES GRAIN CORPORA
TION STANDARD PURE WHEAT FLOUR is
made from the best soft winter wheats; it is not
"War Flour" or "Victory Flour" and does not re
semble them. Let the consumer be the judge.
This flour should be obtainable on or about
December 1 5th from the following dealers located
in this city:
AMERICAN STORES
GREAT ATLANTIC & PACIFIC TEA CO.
Also From Many Members of the
GIRARD RETAIL GROCERS' ASSOCIATION
and the FRANKFORD GROCERS' ASSOCIATION
If you are unable to secure from your dealer this
or similar flour at a similar price, please inquire the
reason. We are ready to sell all retailers on the
same terms that we havegold to stores now handling
this flour.
Watch this space for further announcement.
