Oraverfl lane, Clicstiuit III11. Her
mother uiis Miss Margaret Alleu. Her
Krandmothe". Irs. Kranris O. Allen,
died lust miiniiirr. Ho Elizabeth could
hot have a formal debut beore now.
Theatre parties arc nluajs popular and.
ns the three will be quite Inrce. 11 seems
to me a delightful way to entertain.
Elizabeth is rather fair and tall and
has a very pretty complexion nnd ejci;
nnd u great deal of charm of maimer,
I hne noticed how sweetly she speaks
to older people at the various teas and
yoli know that is alwayR a gri.it asset
to a girl She's so natural and sweet,
that every one likes her.
"ANUMI1ER of the debutantes are
going over to New York for the
Army and Xnvy game today and sev
eral' will stay on to attend the ball
which the .!. Horace Hnrdlngs will gle
nt the Klt.-Cnrlton over there, to in

Hardin. You know Mrs. Harding was
Miss Dorothea Ilnrnej, n daughter of
Mr. Charles D. Harney nnd the late
Mrs. Ttnrnev. nf 'Dirontz.
Thev are' i datives therefore to ninnv
families in this cit. Mrs. Harney ;
Miss Laura Cooke, n sister of the late

daughters besides Mrs. Harding. The
Baroness on Hilier "is one nnd Mrs.
Archibald Hubard and .Mrs. John II.
"Whlttaker njid Mrs. Henry Miller
Vntts are her sislers,
Edith Carpenter is going to the bill

George and l'hoebe Harding will go

THE De Witt C'uyiers will give a
dlnner-dancc this evening for Tolly
Thncr at their countiw home in Haver
ford'. The Cillers have a wonderful
' ballroom nnd all the' downstair roi is
open into each other, so it I splendidly
arranged for enlertaiuliir. 'I he guests
will be of the debutnntc set nnd will be
seated at Miiall'tab'es.
DID ou ever hear of a knifeless.
forkless nnd spoonless luuclieon?
Well, there whs one glvt-n the oilier
tlav by a hostess out on the Main
Liiie and evci. one was ns curious as
curious could be to know how she
would manage.
To be sure, "lingers were made be
fore forks." but' then forks arc pretty
nice and it's ivot an awfully pretty
bit of manners to lick oiic'k fingers be
tween courses, ns it were. So every
one wondered. Well, it was a lovely
affair.
Id the first place, it was given in
the bungalow on the place nnd every
thing was most attractive as far as
decoration's w;ere concerned. And the
table was very pretty. It was like n
low-necked frock with no sleeves and a
Tery low back, as It were (not having
any silver). Only witii frocks some
times the backs are not pretty (o look
at. whereas this table was,
The first course .was chicken soup,
and that was served in bouillon cups.
Then there were frcnclied chops with
ruffled paper petticoats on their ban
dies, nnd Saratoga chip potatoes.
Small hends of lettuce were tucked
Into other leftuce leaes nnd separated
so that they could he easily lifted out
with the fingers. Cups of nlits were
served witii the ttfilnd nnd, of course,
olives and celery nnd rolls.
The hovters wns rather ftumned
when it came to dessert ; and then she
had a brilliant idea. Slie turned paper
drinking' cups upside down and cut
holes in the center; then she nindc
crepe paper tulips nnd placed them
about the euns and filled ice cream cones
and fitted them into the hole in the
fmper cup. They looked perfceth
oyely. Coffee alrendv sweetened and
nlnvinds nnd candy weie served after
the luncheon npd then there were cards.
But first, believe me, there were finger
bowls. It was interesting nnd lots of fun.
And it shows how one can entertain
In a unique manner minus a maid,
as so many are theic days. There was
scarcely anj thing to wash up after
ward, NANCY WYNN'E.
