Nancy Wynne Talks of Miss Warders Debut She
Discusses the Assembly Plans Other Matters of
Interest in the Social IForld
pELESTINE WARDEH Is to be in-
J trodueed this afternoon nt a
dancing tea at the Philadelphia Cricket
Club, She la the eldest daughter of
Sir. and Mrs. Georce Warder, of St.
Martins, Chestnut Hill, and is a half
sister of Mrs. .Too Hrouu nnd of Hilllo
Jlarmer, who married Alice Iong
streth. Celestine Is rather dark, with n
quick little way of turnlne her head
when talking that is rather (inarming.
Nho has a wonderful bright color and
dancing pj-pr. And if sho has one
eighth of the jolllness in her nature
that her father has in his, she'll cer
tainly get along nil .right.
Everybody knows and likes Mr.
George Warder, for the genial, jolly,
excruciatingly funny. attrnctle man
lie is. It's always like walking into
a sudden ray of sunshine on a dreary
day to meet Mr, Warder. When you
leave him after talking for a minute
only you have n broad grin on your
face and you continue to laugh at his
nonsense the rest of the way home.
Mrs. Warder was Miss .Juanita Heed
and has nlways beeu noted for her
beauty. Her lirst husband was Mr.
Harmcr. She married Mr. Warder sev
eral years after Mr. llarmcr's death.
Clestino will be introduced by her
mother, of course, and the buds who'
will receive with her are Mary Apple
ton, Mario Louise Ashhurst, Marian
Baird, Lysbeth Itoyd. Juliana llaker,
Elizabeth Bartow, Caroline Barclay.

A3.XOU saw by the announcement in
the papers on Saturday the man
agers of the Assemblies this year are
the same as those of the last Assemblies
given in 1010-17, with the exception
of Mr. Benuveau Boric, Jr., who was
nsked to fill the. place left vacant by
the denth of Mr. Charles Piatt. .Id.
Dr. Charles 1). Hart is ccrcta.ry,
nnd the other members are Mr. Henry
Brinton Coxe. Mr. S. Pembertou Hutch -iiistou,
who was tieasiuer in 1010-17,
nnd is still I suppose; Mr. Casper Wis,'
tor Morns and Mr, uouvcrncur liul
walader. I had been wondering who would be
the brido of the year patroness. There
are so .many recent ones, it seems,
now tho die is cast, nnd the person
chosen is none other than Mrs. Charles
Cheston, who was Harriet Frazier, and
I'm sure n better choice could nohjnni'
been made.
Harriet, and Charlie were married in
May or June, shortly after his return
from the other side, their engagement
having been announced about two
months. She is the daughter of the
eorgo Harrison Frazlers, you know,
iind a sister of George Frazier, Jr.,
uho is engaged to Marys Clark.
The other patronesses this year will
oe Mrs. Alexander J. Cnssatt, Mrs.
.lohn B. Thayer, whose dnughter Polly
is a debutant of tho season ; Mrs.
Trenchard I' ilen New bold, whose
daughter Bhoda' Brooke is another deb,
ii nd Mrs. Alexander Coxe Yarnall nnd
Mrs. O. II. Perry Pepper, both young
married women of three or four years.
An Assembly without chnmpagne will
be queer, won't it? However, I am sure
tiie committee will make up for it. by
making the decorations and supper more
wonderful than ever before.
TIIE Wistcrs' tea was almost like go
ing to the "Assembly." everybody
put on their best bibs and tuckers and
went to show that they were asked.
Marina and Fanny both wore white
dresses trimmed with silver and looked
very charming nnd animated. Tho his
toric old rooms were so packed that it
was hard to see the beautiful heirlooms
nnd portraits with which thv are tilled.
There was a little more breathing bpaco
in tho library which is lined with hooks
nnd has a true literary atmosphere. 1
heard one white-haired lady say to a
friend that she had been brought out
there in the days of her youth to meet
the great actress, Fanny Kcmlile.
She you must have hoard came to this
country to give readings and married
Pierco Butier, and that is how Butler
Place came into the family. After while
Mrs. Butler left her husband and went
back to England. A daughter named
Fanny married nn Englishman named
Lee and tho other daughter, Sarah,
became Mrs. Wis'ter, who had a very
interesting nnd striking personality.
The garden, in true English fashion,
is quita away from tho house nnd lias
remarkable old' box hedges. The two
cherry trees arching over the center
made me wish it was June again.
The debutantes show the effect of their
war-work in the prompt and etlicient
way in which they serve tea nnd frt'ppe.
In true cafeteria style one supplied me
with sandwiches while another was get
ting me chocolate. In the pre-war
days they used to feed themselves or
stand round and gossip.
It's refreshing to see people cling
to old ways instead of rushing out in
search of the latest thing. The Wistors'
house was lighted entirely by candles
which gave it tho air of n real old
fashioned pnrty. It reminded mo of
some of the parties that the Fishers
used to give at Alvethorpe. their beauti
ful old place at .fenkintown.
DID you know that the George Whar
ton Pepper, Jrs. have bought the
Frederick Bigelows house in St. Da
vids. They have been living for n while
with tho Myers nnd tho Peppers' nnd
had an apartment one winter at Twenty
ttiird and Pino streets. They have been
married about three years now. Mrs.
Pepper was Marion Myers, you remem
ber, a sister of Mrs. John Forsytho
Meigs. 2d. Mrs. Jacob Disstou, Jr.,
nrid'Mrs. Henry Wharton, 'Jr.
IT ItEALIY is remarkable how vitally
interested Ellen Mnry Cassatt and
Gwen Martin nro in the Girl Scouts'.
.Ellen Mary started the thing here, you
know, nbout four or five yenrs ago, and
has consistently worked at it ever since,
and now there are Girl Scouts nil over
the city and tho movement has extended
throughout the state.
They nro going to get up n drive the
end ot.this month to increase, tho mem
bership, you know, nnd they aro going
tn have a big parade on the opening
lay, in which 4000 Girl Scouts will
take part. Lots of prominent women
aro interested in, tho movement, in
cluding Mrs. John Hampton Barnes,
SJrs., Alexander Brinton Coxo. Mrs.
Vttobcrt Lesley. Mrs. Thomas Bobins,
Mfs., Nicolas Roosevelt, Mrs. Edward
B; Smith, Jr.', Mrs,..C. Newbold Tay
lor, -Miss Anne TIkhusou, Miss Mnry
