JUST GOSSIP ABOUT PEOPLE
Nancy JVynne Speaks of the Enclosing of Road Maps in
Invitations to Direct Guests How to Motor to
Parties Miss Adams's Wedding Plans
I MUST gaY the enclosing of road
maps with invitations to out-of-town
affair In a RTC.lt idea.' Some poodle
did it few years ago, when there was
much entertaining; and as pretty nearly
very ono gog to out-of-town teas or
parties in a motor, It I n. great con
venience to know the easiest and most
direct way of getting there.
v Mrs. Isaac It. Davis, who will intm
dtice her daughter, Hctsy Wnrrrn Davis,
on Friday afternoon, October .1, from A
until 7 o'clock, out nt her country place
in Penllyn, has Kent a road map witn
her invitations, which shows ouc just
how to go from Chestnut Hill by way
of the Bethlehem pike. Incidentally
however, you better look out for t.nll
pike from Fort Washington up to
Ambler, and take a cutoff on the Morris
road around to Butler nikn and back
to Bethlehem beyond Ambler, for they
are tearing up the Bethlehem pike,
not a minute too soon, pltlior; and
goodness know?, from the depth of the
trenches, there'll be no passing that way
even-if it is nearly two weekx off.
What a wise plan for Mrs. Davis to
choose the same day as the Henry
Jlrinton Coxa's tea. It docs make it so
much easier for tho guests to go to two
teas in, one afternoon out in the same
dlrectiop, than to have to drive from
Chestnut Hill to tllP Mnin T.ino m!
back again to Penllyn or Owynedd
Ilill or wherever it may be on thc'North
Penn Void all in one afternoon.
I
I HEAR- that tho Tommy Harts will
spend the winter with Mrs. Charles
Hart, Tommy's mother, at her home
on Twenty-first street. Tou know they
have the dearest baby about four
months old. They were in Cape May
with Mrs.' Hart most of the summer
after Margaret's illness. She was
seriously ill for several months, but
has now entirely recovered.
Speaking of the Harts makes me
think of Elizabeth Adams's wedding.
Sounds a bit far fetched till you take
in the connection, does it not? But
then you see Mrs. Tom Hart was Mar
garet Smith, and her mother married
Elizabeth Adams's father some yearh
ago. After Mr. ,Adam.s was killed in
a motor accident in Cape May. Eliza
beth went to live with her sister. Mrs.
George Harding and teorge and Phoebe
have now sent out the invitations for
Elizabeth's marriage to Snowden
Samuel, which is to take place on Oc
tober 1C, in St. James's Church.
'Phoebe Harding's mother-in-law,
Mrs. George J. Harding has given her
house for the wedding reception which
is to be given for the immediate fami
lies and intimate friends at bnjf after
12 o'clock. Good-night! Bur they'll
have to rush to get into line in time to
receive the guests after the wedding,
won't they? , It's only a quarter of n
block away from the church, you know.
PHOEBE HABDISG is to be matron
of honor at the wedding, and IJath
rrine Lea and Martha McAllister, who
is engaged to Sewell Boric, you know,
arc to be maids of honon Then there
are six bridesmaids, Marie Wright
Hoffmou, Christine Hare Stockton,
Gertrude Pancoast, Ruth Ilobart,
Anne Melrs Taylor and Ilcleu Keeney,
of California.
It's bound to be a pretty wedding, as
Elizabeth is very fjoqtl looking, hub a
good figure and carries bersjlf with a
decided air. Phoebe is very pretty, too,
sod the bridesmaids are by no meant?
plain.
Elizabeth looks quite a little like heiN
mother, who was Mis.s Mnbel Smith, ti
sister of the late1 Boss Smith and Harry
Smith. In fact, she was a sister-inlaw
of the present Mrs. Harry Adams,
whose first husband was Harry Smith.
She died when Phoebe and Elizabeth
and Harry, Jr., were crjr small, and
they lived for some time in Washing
ton with their father, who brought them
back to Philadelphia to live when it was
time for Phoebe to make her debut, it
was several years after that, that he
married his brother-in-law's widow.
DID you hear of the cute dog show
the little Willing girl, daughter of
the Kent Willings, and hinnll Mary
lavis gave out at the Willing place
in Paoli on Saturday? They had every
kind of dog entered and gaveprizes an'
everything. The proceed? are to go to
the Society for tho Prevention, of Cruel
ty to Animals. Most of the sWll dogs
round the neighborhood were in the
show, and such growling and barking
and grunting and yelping you never
heard! They had several other little
girls to help them, and altogether it was
a wonderful success. Mary Davis is
the daughter of the S. Boyer Davises,
of Malvern. NANCY WYNNE.' '
