stood, arc decidedh in favor of allow
ing Americans to continue the use of
sugar for their sweet drinks. The
French authorities, however, are mix
ions to obtain sugar from the 1'nited
States, but exportation from the
American market s prohibited to pro
tect American consumers. French food
officials, it is explained, were given an
option last fall mi as large a proportion
of the Cuban sugar ciop as thej wished.
The French, however, took only nbout
