. Today's session on the t'lilladelphla Stock Kxcliange was in striking con
jrast to that of yesterday in that there was an entire nbseuce of the rush to
get into the market that characterized yesterday's trade. The Issues In which
there were any transactions showed steadiness, lint the dnr. errimt In n fe.v
instances, was devoid of the striking price changes which were noted In the
market of. yesterday.
Lnke Superior, which has been one of the favorites during the last couple '
of days, was slow nhotit getting started this morning, and it wns some minutes
after the opening before n alr- was made. There were only 200 shares in the
turnover and the price, 22, was an eighth below Inst night's close. Tliculecllne
continued to 22. Later there was a recovery to the opening price and then nn
advance to 23 ',&.
A considerable amount of realizing by brokers who are long on this stock
Is reported. These offerings, it is said, will have to be absorbed before any

This movement, as most of the others,
ended almost as quickly as it began. A
further hardeniug of quotations for cop
per metal nssisted these stocks.
The rails too were given a boost.
Heading, Southern l'acific, Atchison nnd
the like getting up 1 to 2 points only
to fall back again. Huying of Deliver
and ltio Grande preferred featured the
low priced properties, this stock regis
tering a new high price above IS.
Outside of the market itself, the street
had very little to consider. There wus
little or uo news calculated to influence
sentiment and the course of prices de
pended solely on the inside position of
the market. Tne extensive and prac
tically uninterrupted rise in prices this
week tempted a good deal of profes
sional selling, but this element dis
covered it was ag difficult to dislodge
large holdings as it has been at any
time In the past.
The backwardness of the steel stocks,
following the highly satisfactory ton
nage figures of the steel corporation,
was a disappointment and evidently en
couraged short selling in this depart
ment.
Money rates were an unimportant
factor. Call loans renewing at 7 per
cent and later casing to u'A per cent,
Foreign exchange rates were narrow,
sterling advancing '4 point, while
francs yielded 5 centimes.
