REJOICING ON RHINE
AT REACE-SIGNING
Germans Drink More Beor Than
Usual and Orchestras
Liven Up
Coblenz, Juno SO. (B7 A. P.)
American aviators carrying the peace
extra of the Amaroc News, the armv of
occupation newspaper. In surrendered
German Fokker machines, repeated!
circled over Coblcnz, and great crowds
of soldiers and civilians assembled wher
ever the. extras fell, all eager to read
the details of the ceremony at Ver
sailles. Many extras dropped into the
Rhine, and German fishermen and boys
in canoes fished them out of the water.
In cafes civilians poured over the
news, and the German who could read
a little English was in demand to in
terpret the details of the historic meet
ing at Versailles. In many instances
in the cafes and streets American sol-
diers who spoke German interpreted thelfm nt0, nml colnmllniti(,a.
dispatches.
If thero was any sadness nmong the
Germans over the fact that actual peace
had arrived at last, it was not apparent
among the people about town. In fact.
the cafe orchestras seemed to plaj more
sprightly airs with renewed vigor and
the Germans drank more beer than
usual. All tho while American soldier
ia groups paraded the streets smging.
