Signing of peace treaty with Germany was without any impoitant
influence on New York Stock Exchange prices. Covering of shorts was
chief cause of higher quotations. Cuib maiket was narrow and changes
were small. Coin and cotton closed low. Francs ami Sterling were
lower in foreign exchange maiket. The weekly New York bank state
ment showed decreases in average and actual loans. Bank clearings
for the week weie a little below previous week, but above correspond
ing period of 1018. liar silver decline'.

Interest in today's trading on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange was largely
centered in Klectrlc Storage flattery, Keystone Telephone common nnd Lake
Superior Corporation. Iloth Storage Battery, which was the active leader, '
nnd Keystone Telephone scored wide advances, while there was a renewal of
momentum In Lake Superior, witli its price fractionally lower.
Announcement that the Germans had signed the peace treaty was rccelTCtl
with enthusiasm, but was expected and was without effect on prices.
American Stores, whicll was prominent in the last two sessions, was
strong in this short session, but only n small turnover of this company's shares
was recorded.

Itttpid Transit trust certificates, Philadelphia Company and Lehigh Navigation

There have been some complaints of inability to secure cars for the shipment
of grain east, this being in n measure due to the efforts of tlic railroad adminis
tration to guarantee an adequate supply of curs at western loading points for
the new wheat crop. Oenerat merchandise is moving freely. '
Manufacturing industries nt the many minor towns on the eastern lines
are producing a great deal of tonnage for the majority of roads, and the
through trnflic is holding up well.
Officials of southern rullroads report little change in traffic condition during
the last week. The volume of business is n little lighter than a jear ago. There
is no apparent improvement in shipments of coal, hut lumber is beginning to pick
