was strong and steady after heaviness early in the day. Neutral ex
change was firm and sterling and francs were stronger. A shipment
of $500,000 in gold was shipped from New York Subtrcasury to South
America. Bar silver advanced a trifle in London.

waj Steel Spring nnd Sloss-Sheffield made gains ranging around 1! points.
There was n bullish demonstration again in Southern Pacific, which
lose to lOOs, but reacted from thnt price in the later trading.
The rubber stocks and the sugar issues were prominent at intervals,
with hujing coming into those issues on a large scale. OH stocks were
uctiic and stiong nlso, with Mexican Petroleum, Texas Coinp.iiij and the
Km ale Dutch shines established at materially higher prices.

1 last and on April 1 last jear 7S.0,
while the ten-year average was RU.K,
This is the highest on April 1 since
1SS2. nnd the only year in which indi
cated yield was as large was in 11)14.
The list was unsetled in the last hour
nnd there were substantial recessions
from the top levels, particularly among
those shares which had advanced most
rapidly earlier. It was not mi much
u case of reversal of trend, however,
as of a gradual d.iug nut of the more
urgent demand. Ilonds were quiet. In-
terborough Metropolitan -Ds declined a
point nnd Interborough Itapid Transit

NEW YORK Money, on call, mixed
collateral, opened today at 5 per cent
for lending nnd renewing. On nil in
dustrial collateral, the opening rate was
0 per cent.
No increase in netivity in time funds
is expected in the near future. Rusi
ness at present is quiet, with occasional
loans on industrial securities collateral
nt 574 per cent running for ninety days.
A few transactions arc reported oc
casionally at 5 per cent for ninety
days up to live mouths on collateral of
good mixed securities.
In prime mercantile paper, the de
mand is larger than the supply, which
continues limited. Rates run from 5
to 5 per cent with occasional dealings
