Nou York, March 2C With llto icsmnptton of business aitor the mill
tat j celebration veiterdav the stock market showed a Bcncr.illy disturbed
condition, with nearly all the important issues offered at declining prices
and meeting with onlj 11 nhadowv demand ccn when lower levels wero
established This change from tho sttenpth, which has been maintained
so long In tho stork market, was attributed to tho character of tho press
dispatches iccclvrtl ulnco Mondaj frni tho IYcncli capital and to the
cables published In tho papers tcllimr about olcanlc conditions existing
on the Continent of tluropo and of tho increasing labor tumbles in Ung
land
It is piobable however, that tho market was m sliapo fof a'le
action and that ono would hue come even If perfect tranquility prevailed
on tho other side.
Tho long list of million-share davs which culminated last week in
tho enotmous buying oT L'nitcd States Steel common, when that stock
sold at 100, undoubtedly caused an overbought condition In tho market
and it is now In order for thce speculative conditions to bo adjusted on
a more solid basis.
Selling camo to n great extent todjv fiom tho spcculativo combina
tions which had helped along tho long continued advance. United States
.steel common ohoued a good ralljlng at ono time during tho daj, when
it roo from 06 to 073, but lost all this impiovement when a now
sel.ing movemtnt stalled in tho last horn
The oil tockH wcic sold in large blocks
The transactions in tho Libert Bonds wcic on alargc cale, with
huge blocks of fourth 4s thrown on the market forcing that issue down
to tho new low record of S3 50
The genertl list was heav with the tntcrboiough Metiopolltan I'.s
elllng down, to tho no low recotd of 2S
