STOCK MARKET SHOWS
SOME UNSKTTLEMEiNT
Somewhat Weakened Technical I'osi-

Devoted to Industrial List
Slnek snles today totaled 006,100
shares.
New York, March 14 The New York
Evening Sun's financial review for today
follows:
The Irregular fluctuations of stocks
In totlaj's trading signified merely that
iinces cannot move in one direction In
definitely, even though there Is no news
to chnngo their course The unsettle
ment which tho market disp'ajed at
times, particularly in the early after-
1 uuuii, wuH me logical outcome or a
somewhat weakened technical position.
There was virtually nothing new for
niiLmnmc c-uiiHiiieriiuon, turn siock
movements throughout the session were
Influenced by special pool operations
and conditions within the market It
self. Busing for the advance was again of
broad proportions at the outset of trad
ing Bidding up of specialties such as
Industrial Alcohol, General Motors, D's
Alllers and the shipping stocks, which
rose from two to four points distracted
attention from realizing sales in other
quarters of the lint.
By earlj afternoon, however, offerings
exceeded the demand and prices gave
way quite generally. But there was no
urgent pressure to sell and, as prices
sagged, nctlvlty subsided Interest was
devoted almost exclulvely to the Indus
trial list, the rails being all but neglected
and their prices were inclined to Bell
off during most of the session.
The resilience dlsnlaved by stocks was
perhaps the most significant feature of
the session. Notwithstanding several
weeks of steadily rising prices, holders of
securities nre in no naste to part witn
them at advanced levels.
While the general 1st swung wthn
narrow lmts.'a number of stocks enjoyed
broad movements and held the center
of the stage. New York Ar Brake's
sharp advance was assocated with the
announcement that, the concerns plans to
manufacture motortrucks. Nothing new
came to light on the shipping stocks to
account for their strength Wilson & Co ,
and Worthlngton Pump were featured
by pools which believe that these stocks
have been selling out of line with their
earning power. National Cloak and Suit
touched a new high for the ear and
Crucible Steel and General Motors soared
from 2 to 5 points In the. early dealings.
Alcohol and food stocks were in favor
and lost Itie least ground when the
inirl.et was reactionary. Distillers shot

Electric Storage Battery became the leader again In today's trading
on the Philadelphia Stock Kxchange. Not only did It develop unusual
momentum, sales totallnfj around 2400 by midafternoon, but it soared more
than 3 points to 04?;, a new top since 1917, There was a reaction later
on profit-taMne, but the undertone remained stronu and there waa much'
talk In the Street pf tho company;s good earnings and excellent outlook
because of 'the indications of a large demand for batterjes. j
Lalte Superior Corporation showed slightly better than moderato ac-i
Hvlty, but it yielded a fraction, and Tonopah-Belmont lost a trifle, declinlrlsj
to 3'i on a fair turnover. Theie was also a free supply of General Asphalt!
common, which carried it off for a wide loss, while the preferred ie!ded asj
much as 5 polntB without showing much activity. .1. a. Brill, recently proml-l
ment because of Its violent advance, lost 2 point on an odd lot tiansactlon.5.
Lehigh Navigation made a good gain, Philadelphia niectrlc shaded l
little, but other home Issues were generally around their previous closlnrj
levels. j
Italls did Jlttle, but both Pennsjlvanla and Lehigh Valley weto steady.
United States Steel common was not particularly active and was lower-.
Lake Superior Income 6s were active and off one-half of 1 per cent In
the bond market. Second Liberty Loan 4 '4s were hlghei.
Net earnings of the Donner Steel Company for the cur 1918, It was
announced today, totaled $2,539,580, as compared with $2,631,705 In 1917T
and with $1,066,058 In 1916. Surplus was $965,6S1, against $1,060,402 In 1918
