Now York, Jan. 11. Tho stock market fn tho two hours of trading
with which tho teek ended was without any posltlvo tpndency and re
flected a cessation of both liquidation and pool operations.
Stocks that had been mado stronf; for a long tlmo past wero In supply,
a special featuro being Mexican Petroleum, which dropped during tha
first hour from 182U to 170. Other oil stocks showed an nbsenco of pool
support, which had been the chief sourco of activity for somo time and
they showed a heavy tono ccncrnlly, although Sinclair Olt wai steady
and thcro wero Indications of orders to accumulate tho stock at slight re
cessions. Tho local transportation stocks were again Influenced by tho action
of tho Board of HsUmate yesterday and declined under small offerings,
Interborough preferred dropping moro than 1 point to 1914 and fractional
losses wero sustained In tho common stock and In Brooklyn Hapld Transit.
Tho steel Btocks wero unusually quiet and fluctuations In those Issues
wero confined within narrow limits, but nearly all theso stocks showed
trifling losses at tho close.
Tobacco stocks wero made active at times, with United Cigar Stores
molng up from 113'i to llt'.i in tho early forenoon, but losing most
of Its gain In tho last hour of trading. Cuba Cano Sugar was ono of the
weakest features, falling moro than 1 point to 20r;.
Government bonds wero again active, with the Liberty fourth 4'is
continuing In good demand, mos,t of tho transactions being around 9r.60.
Other bonds wero irregular, with tho traction Issues down about 1
point.
