Corporal John M. nrlffenburs had scarcely been helped to his feet by n Red Cross man when a piece of shrapnel crushed the ikutl nf the stretcher bearer. Corporal Grlffenburg was so weak that he could not aid the man who had been wounded while trying to help htm. and had to crawl away to a field dressing station, leaving the Ited Cross man lying on the battlefield.
