An estimate by a private authority,
Indicating an avcrago Increase of 10 per
cent In the number of hogs on farms to
78,500,000 was 0 great bull factor In
corn hero today.
it led to extensive buying and caused
a sharp advance In prices following Ir
regularity In the early tiadlng. when
the undertone was affected by continued
favorable weatMer and larger recetpts.
x When the news on the hog supply
came out shorts covered freely and there
nlso was new buying by Investors, w hlch
forced values upward. Toward the close
profit-Inking brought about a reaction
from the top.
The heaviest gains In hog stocks were
shown In the States of large corn pro
duction. Iowa, Indiana, Illinois and
Ohio, amounting to 14 per cent nnd the
total leaching 3,287,000, out ot an ag
gregate Increase of 7,851.000 throughout
the country.
The cash article also was stronger,
and a keen demand from feeders was 1
noted from lowa and parts ot Illinois, j
although the Inquiry moderated.
Oats were under prepsuie and, nl-!
though the market dlsplased fhmness at 1
times it finished easier. Trade was nar- I
tow and local. A leading elevator In-1
terest bought December and sold Jan-
uary. Commission houses were uoin
sides.
