New York. Nov. 1C.
The steel Industry of the United

The changes which must be made will
be Just as iiidirnl ns tnoe which were

with that peilod, It is known that the
readjustment from wnr to pence con

the Industij to 1 greater extent than
it haa since the Government first un

The fa 1 1 that the lending steel men
of the countrv were called to "Wash

Philadelphia Electric Becomes Home Leader and Holds
Steady Storage Battery and P. R. R. Slightly
Lower U. S. Steel Declines
Local stock trading was small today, and, following the uncertain courw
on the big board, price movements were irregular, although generally changes
for home Issue! were few and unimportant.
Philadelphia Electric assumed the active leadership for the strictly home
list enrly In the session, but it held steady nnd Tlnchanged, while Storage
Battery gained on early loss and Tonopah-Ilclmont moved up a trifle. In
surance Company of Nortn America, Lehigh Navigation, Unlcn Traction
nnd United Oas Improvement remained unchanged on light sales. William
Cramp cei tifleates, which scored a wldo upturn jesterdny, was active com
pared with the .remainder of the list, nnd gained 2'A points to 92V4.
Arbitrage Btocks followed the trend in New York and were generally
lower.f United States Steel showed little activity, however, and trading in
tho usual leader was unimportant. Baldwin Locomotive yielded 1 points
and Mercantile Marine preferred sold off ?i.
Pennsylvania Itallroad, Lehigh Valley and Reading Company were lowr.
Officials of railroads operating eastward from Chicago and St. Louis re
port that the termination of hostilities in Europe and the beginning of th
reconstruction period have not caused any particular 'change in the traffic
situation In eastern territory.
A great deal of uncertainty prevnlls In business circles, and this is causing
some hesitancy which may curtail transactions for the time being.
'Officials of southern railroads report that business has fallen slightly be
low what It was a year ago, and a labor shortage prevails on account of tha
recent influenza epidemic. Tho car supply in the South is fairly plentiful.

Reports from Europe of the spread
