iSlurkcl Works Off Sharply Un
der Spot House Selling and
Local Realizing
New York, Nov. 4.
The cotlon market opened .strong and
active at an advance of 38 to ill! points
oer Saturday's close.
An oxpectodly strong Liverpool cable,
reflecting Manchester buying, on top
of the Austrian news, started a big cov
ering movement here, which was sup
plemented' by active trail" and commis
sion house buying. Ilrokers representing
spot linns were among the largest sellers
on the opening.
I'lhate advices reaching here from
New Orleans said spot dealers there had
'agreed not to sell unhedged cotton un
til the market had adjusted itself.
The market worked off sharply after
tins opening under spot bouse selling
and local realizing, and was unsettled
at about til) points net rise.
The market quieted, but held steady
to firm, with active months lullng about
72 to 7!l points net higher.
Alter hying eaily, tins Soth seemed to
hac few orders here either way and
the demand was1 altiibuted chiefly to
roverihg by shorts,
Ai meeting of governors and commis
sioners of agriculture of all southern
States will be held In Atlanta on Wed
nesday to formulate plans for the pro
tection c.f cotton.
