The Philadelphia Mock maiket opened fairly bioad again today and
continued firm, hut only a few Issues showed much activity. Tlieie was
ulso continued Improvement. In the bond division, with utilities prominent
and higher. And the Rcnernl mnrket conditions Indicated a Rood demand for
those, stocks and bonds that tire likely to be favored by early peace. Tills
was In lino with the showing inado on the big board, the New York market
bclliB active, with those Issues classed In the peace group making substantial
gains. ., ,
Klcctrlc Storage Hattery continued to be a. favoilte here and scored an
advance by the end of the first hour of , while nt tho name time one of the
active local leaders, Oencral Asphalt common, remained unchanged on a
fair turnover. Lake Superior moved up ' and a similar advance was scored
by United Oas Improvement which .had been one of the few home stocks
to recede In jesterdny's market. Pennsylvania Salt, Itapld Transit certifi
cates, Philadelphia Kleetic and I'nlon Traction all came out unchanged.
United States Steel common was more active than It has been early
In any recent session nnd made a substantial gain. Pennsylvania Kallroad
attracted attention by making a gain of 8 on a small turnover, Heading
Company wus marked up the same amount and a trifling transaction In
Inspiration Copper was tecorded at 57, up la4.
Heading general 4s were the active leaders In the bond division and
they advanced 4 of 1 per cent, while Philadelphia Company consolidated
5s, on a. fair volume of business, gained 1 per cent and United Railways In
vestment Cs were marked tip the fame amount. Liberty Loan borjds were
Inactive.
