I s r 4 :. , ( A?itf after the heavy wheel had passed over his young, strong, elastic body, fatally injuring his spine, and as he knew his life was ebbing, sobbing out, he said these very words "Mother, you are just a real right kind of a mother, that's what you are"! K That mother would that night have given two lives if she had them to keep her boy alive. These days the desperation of the conscienceless, blood-mad enemies facing our troops bent upon speeding up the victory, according to authenticated reports, are strewing the battlefields with our wounded and dying boys. By patriotic inspirations and with mothers' blessing they went away, and hundreds of thousands of them are now in the heat of the fire of shot and shell and suffocating in the devilish and deathly gas traps. Can the mothers, fathers and relatives of the families fail their boys in the days of the savagery of the war, when the crying necessities of the United States Treasury fall back upon prosperous farmers, citizens, merchants, manufacturers, both men and women, employers and employed, to come to their help, immediately, because of dire need? That real story of a boy and, a real mother, as above stated, may picture other boys on the dead line of the battlefields: Big, brave, strong, patriotic boys are much alike the world over, and they turn in the wild, shrill, fierce hours of peril as if in appeal to their mothers to help them by their prayers; by frequent letters by assisting the Government Mark you: Not for donations Not for arguments Not for excuses of other calls but simply to lend all the money you can scrape up to President Wilson to build and man ships and to fit out and support armies. What mother cannot see her boy or some other boy, far across the waters, stretching out his hand for help now, help quick, for suffering and dying boys ? What father can close his eyes or smother his ears when his boys call, when he can go to the bank -go to the saving fund, go down into a pocket go to a building and loan association and geta Government bond for cash down or by installments stretching through several months ? Why, Man ! You are only a lender on undoubted security. Remember that, and not only get together and put into the war your brainy help in influence and cash, but do it quick to quicken others. Lay down the knitting for the moment and lend yourself and your money wholly to making a quick end of blood shed. , vrt - Then for a great thanksgiving Signed October 7, 1918 - V p MU B ' Hl m B V IHH II BwQr xf .t --- A?l tm .. fffrTTfltKaifiii Liii.. . . . . fc. .-i. i .. mi II 'VI II 1 ' II '' ' II It II V i.itf uj f i , 7 U Ml kT. a K i :. i H M --?' t; " ' (!( . i m 'X4 iAI Vy fj -''-J si A-" ' ' ' '0, : ja s .. 5?(1 . j H'iXl o i M
