' ' ' ' ' - - - - - - wv i . m II I il ' War is not only a matter of bullets and bayonets. It is a matter of psychology. The most important thing is the attitude of the people. The Kaiser knows this. He knows that if he can undermine the moral fiber of the American people by destroying their confidence it will sap the fighting strength of the nation and assure a German victory. That is why his secret agents are flooding the country with false rumors and malicious lies, cir culated as facts, discrediting "the administration's conduct of the war, the Red Cross, the care and conduct of our troops, the condition of our cantonments, etc. all tending to create distrust and discontent among our people and discourage those working for our country. But the Kaiser can't speak through his spies people would be suspicious. So he speaks through the thoughtless men and women who listen to and pass on every disquieting rumor they hear with out stopping to inquire if it has any foundation in fact. These stories are the most insidious form of Ger man propaganda. They are accepted as news and unfortunately are given the widest circulation by Americans who do not realize that they are aiding our enemies. They gain credence from the fact that their purpose is not plain. They have no German color to betray them. They begin as malicious lies, progress as gossip and end as author itative charges so widely believed that official denial itself can hardly discredit them. Every time you pass on, or even listen to, one of these base falsehoods you are working serious harm to the pause for which our boys are giving their lives. Patriotic Americans, whenever you hear a man finding fault with the government or repeating disquieting rumors, walk right up to him and ask: "How do you know?" That question will make him pause, take heed, consider. It staggers the liar. It stops the tongue of the slanderer. It strikes deep at the root of everything that's false.. It is the weapon which will enable YOU to help muzzle the yellow dogs that are snapping at the heels of Uncle Sam. BE LOYAL TO AMERICA IN WORD, THOUGHT AND DEED STICK TO YOUR JOB AND LET NOTHING SHAKE YOUR CONFIDENCE IN OUR GOVERNMENT This campaign is supported in the interests of the "Win-the-War" movement by the following manufacturing interests, financial institutions, firms and individuals: Edgar T.
