Germantown Academy
Send Him to a School Where Every Day Brings
Sound Training
Every recitation hour, every study hour isvital to the boy who
expects his school to really train him. Boys are hoping for big
things for this coming school year.
Germantown Academy wants just these boys because it has been the
Academy tradition, since 1760, to graduate boys armed with best
possible equipment to meet the demands of the day.
For generations the high standard and character of the Academy
have been recognized by Philadelphia citizens. Philadelphia families
boast sons, fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers all Academy
boys. lG8th year opens September 19th.
Thorough college preparation. All-dav school for boys in 1st
Primary, 6th and Upper 6th Forms. Kindergarten supplemented
with Liberty Tadd System for girls and boys four and five years
old. Kindergarten is conducted in a separate building adjoining the
Academy.
Military training this year with gymnasium work. Army setting
up exercises and drill will give good foundation for further work
in this direction.
The Headmaster is at the office from 9 to 12 every school day and can be
seen personally or reached by telephone Germantown 4440.

to knock off a few lines. I'll give
jou a little idea of what happened on
the 18th Inst:
Xero Hour (At 10 a, m.)
They sent over a few- one-pounders
To let us know they were there.
And one came so very close
It parted by nice blonde hair.
They killed my pal, Jim Patten;
Old "Mike" Drlscoll get It, too;
And even now I can't explain
How I ever got through.
Then came the machine-gun Are,
Which covered each foot of ground,
And then we all took cover
Behind tree, bush and mound.
We let 'em have a llttlo fun
Before we began to play
Our automatics and rifles.
And It sure was some display.
Old "Frltzle" must have thought
Hell had broken loose
When w 1th 'a yell of "At 'em !"
Our bojs went at the brutes.
I'm not so badly done up
And my only prayer is this:
To give our old pal "Jerry"
Another such hour of "bliss."
