thote bonds and their pronounced strength caused a general withdrawal
of activity from stocks, een where special Influences to Induce activity
prevailed.
The trading In this bond started with the establishment of a new
high record of 101.1S, but the buying was so peiMstent that soon after
noon tho price of the bonds reached 102.04.
A strong tone prevailed in the stock market for a time before mid

the day nearly everything traded In showed some amount of decline.
Business was concentrated almost wholly in the Liberty 3s, leaving
the stock market generally without buers Tho publication of a story
of a new consolidation of shipping interests was used with effect as a
bullish Influence in Marine preferred during the morning, that stock ad
vancing 1 point to 103csi uut when the story was denied it broke -'
points.

mand all through the day. making a gain of 1 point.

Lake Superior and Lit Brothers Only Home Isssues

Asphalt common and Philadelphia Company cumulative preferred each.
Early In the session Rapid Transit trust certificates gained slightly, but
In the late afternoon they declined to 27, off , and closed unchanged, while

Commenting on the Hale & Kllburn earnings statement recently Issued,
the management says:
"The Hale & Kllburn Corporation, which was recently reorganized by
the stockholders of the Hale & Kllburn Company, has completed operations
for the first six months of this fiscal year, which compare favorably with
the corresponding periods of the three previous jears.
"The plant Is now upon a 90-per cent war-production basis, the majority
of Its orders being directly or Indirectly upon Government work, In lieu of
Its former peace-time product, which was railway car seats and equipment,
Enclosed motor bodies and miscellaneous stampings, all of which have been
greatly curtailed. 1
"The equipment and facilities for the peace-time products, however,
have not been destroyed; a considerable portion is being used on war product,
so that the concern Is In a position to handle Its railway car seat and equip
ment business, should the railway administration come Into the market for
such equipment."

Adoo announced today.
Are you making all the money you can for
the concern which is paying you to do so?
If not, are you the man for your job?
A business which is to compete and prosper
must have a man at its head who takes
nothing for granted, and keeps up to date
whether he thinks he is interested or not
This may not apply to you BUT DOES IT?
Isn't it your duty to those associated with
you, as well as to yourself, to study out
every suggestion and to take advantage of
every opportunity for additional profits?
There are reasons why thinking concerns
rated from $100,000. to $1,000,000. sold us
over TWENTY MILLION of our total vol
ume of over FIFTY-ONE MILLION of
Accounts in 1917 on our NO-NOTICE to
their customer plan. Such concerns don't
sell Accounts from necessity.
There are reasons why 77.1 of our cus
. tomers have first or second credit rating
and 33.4 have had their ratings increased
while dealing with us. You may be equally
surprised to find that our plan has advan
tages for YOU.
Write for our brief folder which explains
how we put your idle capital to work AND
AT THE EXPENSE OF OTHERS.
