nere many months ana really It seems
like my own business. And besides that,
T can't go with tho boys, for I have
been disqualified for overseas duty."
Harrison Is a Gcnnantownman and
Is fighting like sixty to retain his, place
In the regiment, but it Is not likely that
he will succeed. "You know," continued
Harrison, "there are thousands of new
men In camp who are not attached to
the division. They will remain here,
and If they only knew about this' tain
It would help us. And It would help
them, too, for we have pome genuine
bargains."
Tho 304th Exchange, liko all other
exchanges, Is run by and foxtho men,
and all profits go direct to the regi
mental fund that It applied to tho needs
of tho soldiers. A peek at the new
prlcemakrs 'convinced the reporter that
tho boys aro staging a real sale. Shoes
that sold for J6.B0 are marked down to
$5 : thlrty-flve-cent toothbrushes aro
selling at twenty-five j cordovan puttees,
originally marked $14, hao been re.
duced to $10, and naphtha soap that
rells at the comer grocer's for eight
cents In going at five.
Tha fact that tho regiment Is leav
ing America In crder to help savo Amer
ica did not occur to Mayberry or Har
rison. Llko others at Camp Meade,
they do not spend much time on war
conversation. Just at present they are
trying to swell the regiment's fund by
selling cut tho stock of goods In the
exchange, nnd the Evenino Public
EEPriEn reporter promised to help by
giving publicity to the sale.
