their first lessons In arithmetic
Most of the pupils were foreigners,
who had never hcen the Inside of a real
school. Kacli was given a primer such
as that used In the public schools, and
"Teacher" Cameron was pleised with
tho Interest they showed. Classes in
arithmetic aro to be hold at night In the
joiners' shop, the men taking turns
A course in Kngllsh is boon to be
started for the thoubands of aliens In
tho yard. Particular attention will be
given to conversation, for few of these
shlpworkers can speak, more than a few
words of English to tholr fellow work
men. Thpy are anxious to learn, and It Ih up
to their foremen to teach them. They
will be assembled In tho Joiners' shop
during the, noon hour. There vylll be
Americans on hand to talk with them
