Pcimsyliania Relay Carnival Was Successful
ALTHOUGH It was several notches below the high ttandard established
-In former ears In regard to the number of first-class and record
breaking performance", the' twent -fourth annual relnj carnival of the
University of Pennsylvania, which was held last Friday and Saturday At
(franklin Field, easily was one of the most successful track and field meets
held In this country since the Fnlted States entered tho vv.ir.
Once moro tho committee In charge demonstrated that a track meet
ould be run off In scheduled time. In fact, on several occasions tho events
It the Fcnn carnival were a few minutes ahead of tho time on the program.
As soon as one race was over the runners in tho next wero ready to get
under way The odlclalH werp not running hither and thither, accomplish

The attendance on both days also was below par, due to the strong
rounter-attractlon, the Liberty Loan parade. On Friday there wero fewer
than 10,000 In the stand-;, while on Saturday only lt.000 wero on hand.
The Pennsylvania students, who liltherto alwnys had filled their sections in
the south stunds and ndded an elra thrill with their strong cheering.
wero conspicuous by their absence this season. The caii'e was apparent

Only One Record Was Broken

The time for the American college four-mile championship, which was

two-mile championship tho Massachusetts Institute of Technology runners

PJtt quartet was saved from establishing a new record for the slowest
time through tho sensational running of Frank Shea. As it was, Pitt's
time was the second slowest made In this championship event.
Shea was the star of the meet. He turned what were apparently three

Georgia Tech Repeals Athletic Triumph
r TAST fall the Georgia School of Technology, located at Atlanta, did its
XJ bit in adding luster to the name of tho southern burg which far out
chines Its contemporaries below the well-known M. and D. line as a pub
licity center. It produced a football team that slaughtered other southern
teams that had formerly triumphed over it us a rule and came Into the
national gridiron limelight by walloping the eternal da; lights out of the
trng Penn team by a score of 41 to 0. In consequence of its season's
iWrd the team, which has been coached many years by Ilelsman, old
Umi Pcnn player, was selected by many as the best In the country.
K'Xnd now the swell athletic feat of last fall Is being followed by a tour
tfcW spring of a golf team which Is wading through eastern tchools with
Jtoilsw victories over Columbia, Tale and our home contingents. The school's
AMFeoonl (a not as much of a flash perhaps as was its football showing,
