ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT gently through the air; merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily take the U-boats' dare. Here's an
adaptation from the well-known ditty especially written for the Philadelphia lads who are learning the ins and outs of a
mariner's life aboard the naval training tliip Calvin Austin, which has tied up at Vine street wharf. Hero you have a few
of them going through small-lioat drill aboard the mother .hip.

SADDEST OF ALL PATRIOTIC duties is that of planning for the day when American soldiers, blinded aud
otherwise disabled in the war, will have to be cared for or taught useful occupations in keeping with their phys
ical powers remaining. Such a task has been willingly shouldered by Mrs. A. B. Wcnsell, widow fit the noted
artist, who has opened a school at the nation's capital for the instruction in the art of weaving for joung women,
who, in turn, will become instructors of the returning unfortunates from overseas.

STURDY LADS, THESE Canadian Highlanders, who arc doing their level best at this very
moment to stem the German surge across Picardy. Of course, the photograph wasn't taken
during the present terrible, battle, but you can rest assured that these jaunty Canucks are
where the action is hottest, and that is from the viewpoint of tho Germans.

"OVER THE TOP" IN SILHOUETTi; with cold bayonet leveled, and the imaginary enemy
not far beyond. Charges such as the ubove are ordinary occurrence's at the big army can
tonment up at Wrightstown, N. J. At first the fellows feel rather sheepish about attacking
n foe who doesn't for the moment exist, but soon they come to feel that some day their
lives will depend upon this very training, and then their charges become uncannily realistic.
THE MATTER OF FROCKS is being weighed
hytbe feminine members of ciery Philadel
phia household. Just by way of suggestion,
hern is a light summer dress of blue and tan
chiffon, with silk embroidery in harmonizing
nnd contrasting colors effective when com
pleted by figured hat and bag.
