New Yorli, March 21,
Activities on the Mock exchange were divided In two Rroups ilurlns
the day's tradlnu, with tlio dcalliiRS In Liberty Uonds tho moat promi

started In tho shuro market, with many Ismies maklnc paKis r.uiRlng
from 1 to 2 points.
Naturally tho heavy trading In Liberty -Is was regarded with the
hlgheM. Importance, but tho buying of thoso bonds up to tho high range
of 97.0 Mvus of u speculative character, with nearly all tho market Interest,
usually devoting attention to stocks buying the bonds on n largo scale.
Tho Street has taken It for granted that tho third Liberty Loan will
bo on a l',4 per cent basis niul that tho other Issues will liavo conversion
privileges. This would Indicate that tho bonds nt the Increased rate of
Interest would naturally sell at 11 premium Immediately uflcr allotment.
I'nltttl States Steel fluctuated within a Inline of 'i all through the
forenoon, and Mar.nc prefoired and the leading railroad stocks wcto
ulso traded within uMremely narrow limit".
In tho late trading Marine preferred attracted Increased attention,
with u vigorous advnnco to above 90.
Trading was moderate In volume In the railroad bonds, but some
specialties wero active, with Distillers Securities Cm advancing from St

scale, starting at DG.88 and advancing to 97.G4, followed by a reaction to 97.

New York, March 21,
Id by March, which sold at 34c, rep
resenting a net advance of 72 points and
a new high record for the season, the
entire cotton market turned strong In
the last hour today, after Irregularity.
Buying was heavy and general and
sellers of earlier In the week took a
prominent part. The demand from this
source was urcent and suceoali-H ihni I
not a little of the offerings of the last
few days had been for short account.
Much of the cotton disposed df since
Mopday, found lodgement in the hands
of spinners and Liverpool Interests, who
also were purchasers today, as were the
south, Wall street and local operators,
Klnul prices were strove at a net
gain of 33 and 77 points.
It Was estimated around tho ring that
Fall lllver, Providence, New Bedford
and Boston Interests had bought con
tracts for fully 30,000 bales here.
Tomorrow will be the last March no
tice day. The action of the market to
day certainly Indicated no apprehension
about tenders.
