speaker, whose name has not yet been an
nouncrd, will give a talk on women's work
as laid down by tho Council of National De
fenre. This particular lecture, while of Im
portance to cery one, will appeal particu
larly to the women, and they havo been
urged to have a large attendance present
for the occnslon. Charles 1). Harney, of
Elklns Park, Is expected to preside.

visit the homes of all residents of the three
towns, colliding data as to the nature and
amount of war work already done by the
women of tho arlous households. The In
formation so obtained It to bf filed away for
reference and every effort will bo made by
the Investigating committee to gli'e assist
ance In the way of suggestions. This will
be of great help to many women who, anx
ious to clie their share of assistance ns
a patriotic duty, ore preiented from doing
It by lack of knowing how to go nbout it, or
else what to do.

Again the canteen department of the Lans
downe Heel Cross branch has procd Its ex
treme usefulness. On Wednesday. In tiulck
response to an emergency call, a number of
women intirfstcd In this department aFim-
bled at one of th Philadelphia stations and
distributed apples, cigarettes, magazines and
postcards to nbout two hundred sohllors who
were passing through tho city. Their work
was certainly a good one, for It Is Just such
little "extras" as these that are hi np
preciated by all of the men.

were entertained on Tuesday afternoon with
a most delightful musical progrnm by the
Matinee Musical Club, which Mrs. Frederick
W Abbott, the president of the club, had ar
ranged to give them. There were songs by
Mrs. Charles Frlcke, violin solos by Mls
Florence Haenle, readings by Miss Blanche
Lester, songs by Miss Kmma Olden and duets
by Mrs. James Foote and Mrs. S, iMarshall
Wilson. An enjoyable part of the program
was tho community singing. In which all the

whistling, a novel Idea which provided a lot
of fun for everybody.
