DON'T you wonder wliat on earth they

There's tho lieatlcrH night on TuesdayF,

milL' Philadelphia Chapter of the DaUKli---
ters of tho American Revolution Aux
iliary of tho American lied Cross Is doing
lnter6stlng work. Tho chapter, of which
Mrs. Charles Nevln is regent, Is located at
1126 Sprueo street, and tho rooms there arc
given oer entirely to Ued Cross work, all
meetings of tho chapter being held clso
wherc. Dining tho last week they have been
having n drive, In which they tried to ex
ceed all tho previous work they havo done,
and from tho report It seems us It they
must havo succeeded pretty well, for they
havo turned out HOO 2,i by 2U wipes (hao
jou over dono them, oh, gcntlo reader, I
.ask you; havo you7); 300 4 by 4 wipes, 300
4 by S compresses, 200 8 by 12 cotton pads,
200 12 by 24 cotton pads, 60 16 by 24 paper
back pads and numerous other dressings.
In making all these, moro than 100 pounds
of gauze and 100 pounds of absorbent cot
ton havo been used.
QrEAKING of tho Itcd Cross work, havo
J you seen tho beautiful work tho stock
ing machines do? They make up almost a
wholo stocking in about fifteen minutes,
and then you catch up tho stitches on four
steel needles and finish tho toes and heels
by hand. It saves Immeasurable time, and
is just as well done as when all Is by hand;
In fact, thoso I havo seen show no mark
where tho handwork is taken up after tho
machine has finished its part. It is cer
tainly worth while ha Ing one. Tho Women
Writers' Auxiliary, which has rooms In the
Itocord Dulldlng, you know, has gottcn, one,
and It's awfully Interesting.
rpo GU back to tho Daughters of tho
-- American ltovolutlon; they liavo plan
ned to tako one week In every month for
a drlo nnd intend to work steadily on
overy day In that week. Mrs. Samuel Kerr
is chairman of tho auxiliary and Miss Dob
bins Is treasurer.
A member of tho chapter, who did not
wish her namo divulged, donated an am
bulance and kitchen trailer to, tho Ameri
can Ambulance abroad. You know, the
trailers arc attached to the ambulances and
can bo uecd at any tlmo to provide the
wounded men with hot food. Tho authori
ties havo allowed tho donation to bo placed
In the division of tho American Ambulance
In which young Ogden Novln, son of the
chapter's regent, Is serving.
ThU chapter, which claims to be tho old
est in Philadelphia, Is constantly adding
new members, and Is certainly ono of tho
most successful In tho city. But then
they aro all successful in tho way of good
will and good work. More praise, to them!
