I Activity in Municipal Honds Continues
'The activity In Rood municipal bonds still continues. It would .seem, ns one
' Unker said yesterday, as though the old standby Investor, after the hurly-burly
!j campaign for the Mberty I,oan, had wiped oft his specs, taken out bis pencil
) uiil from every uuthorlty found out just where ho stood In tho matter of war
' nJ supcrtnxatlon, and after elabor.ito calculation hail ronrludeil that, after
, all, tax-frco municipal 4s or 4V4J were not n bad investment for liltn at the luesent
I time. And It would f,eem ns though theio
time Investors coming Into tho market.
The representative of a largo banking concern that usually carries a big
list of such bonds complained yesterday that he could have sold $100,000 of
municipals before 10 n. in., but ho hadn't got them.
He also drew attention to the 5mnll number of such bonds that were coming
out; whether such action Is in deference to the request made by the Government
some time ago for municipalities to go slow on new financing or whether from
thl stress of circumstances nnd the cost and .scarcity of labor lie nid lie could
not say. The request made by the Government In this connection was understood
; (by many to apply only to the period Immediately befoie and dining the vceom
Liberty Loan campaign, so that there would be no interference with Its' success.
This man also pointed out tliat In a recent publication largely devoted to
Bute municipal, reference was only mndo to one hmall issue of less than
1200,000 by the borough of Homestead, Pa. No others appeared in tho list ot
rew municipals, nnd although several small boroughs and townships: were Bet
tin" ready to sell new Issues before tho publication of tho Government's lequcst,
these were wit' drawn, and up to the present no attempt has been made to place
them on the market.
It Is also well known that many municipalities are averse to an increase in
taxation, which usually goes with new bond issues, us a majority of the citizens
believe the l-'cdcml taxation at pios-ent Is quite enough of a but den.
Kansas City Terminal's $3,000,000 Note Issue
An Issue of $3,000,000 Kansas City Terminal Hallway Company one-year rt per
cent notes has been announced by Lee Hlgglnson & Co., William A. Head & Co.
trd the Illinois Trust and Savings Hank, Chicago.
This h one of the first new Issues of any Importance that has appeared since
the second Liberty Loan campaign.
Tho notes are offered to the public nt
discount Is allowed to bankers ard brokers. These notes have been favorably
received In tlnanclal circles In this city, due In part to tho security back cf them,
but largely to tho short period which they liavo to run and tho comparatively
modest size of the Issue.
They are secured by pledged collateral

ditionally, both principal nnd Interest, by tho twelve leading lalhoads entering
Kansas City over this erminal system, which has been built at a cost of more
than $40,000,000.
