It seemed ns tlioush half of the Street hnd on bull boots today by the.
manner In which many of the lending stocks traveled rapidly nlonp to higher
prices. Blocks of the steel stocks, especially, were tiiken, with buying orders
In United States Steel common frequently In f000 and 10.000 shnrc lots, absorb
ing all tho offerings on brokers' books and carrying Its price up from 108 U to
above 111 with hardly a modcrato reuctlon on the way up. "
Other steel stocks moved upward, with nearly tho entire group making
gains ranging from 2 to Ii points. There was hardly nny necessity for a special
Incentive In tho movement, as the market had changed Its character with the
financing arranged by tho banking committee on Monday, and with the tension
on money relaxed there was nothing In the situation to prevent prices moving
up to near their previous level.
Many specialties reflected a srramblo of shorts to cover, but tho buying
in tho more Important Issues, to a largo extent, camo from leading banking
Interests, who had only been restrained from buying previous to this week
because of the stringency In the money market. The announcement of the
ndvance In wages by the United States Steel Corporation naturally caused
bullish enthusiasm and mado holders of tho Steel stock confident that tho
Government would fix n fair price for finished steel products.
Bond market conditions were generally unchanged, although advances were
made In a few of tho low-priced railway Issues. Tho Liberty Loan continued to
range close to 100. Krle Junior bonds were in supply at extremely low figures,
tho "B" debentures selling at 48.
BROAD STREET CURB MARKET SHOWS
MORE ACTIVITY IN DAY'S TRADING
NEW YOItK, Sept. to.
Increased activity was shown In' the Broad Street Curb trading, with
many of tho stocks that had been under pressure in brisk demand nt vigorous
ndvances. Submarine Boat -was ono of the most prominent features, moving up
from 1814 to 19, with the buying based on published statements about new
Government contracts.
Wright-Martin was traded In on n largo scale from 9?J to 101, and Curtlss
ranged from 41U to 40 and back to 41. Bethlehem Steel new preferred In tho
early trading sold at 102& to 102.
Oil stocks showed a strong tone generally.

We summarize from a letter of Mr. King C. Gillette, President, the following 'partic
ulars regarding the present Company, the assets of which arc to be taken, over by the
Company above named:
The Giirette Safety Razor Company is one of the most prosperous industrials in
the United States. The efficiency of its plant has been highly commended by experts) a
its product has been standardized, and the Gillette Safety Razor is known throughout
the world. The main office of the company is in Boston, Mass., and it has offices and
agencies in Montreal, London, Paris, Milan, Lisbon, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Stockholm,
Petrograd, Tokio, Shanghai, Melbourne, Havana, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and
Valparaiso. The company has an annual output of approximately 750,000 razors and
7,500,000 dozen blades.
New interests have recently become identified with the company and will be repre
sented on the Board of Directors by J. E. Aldred, of Aldred & Co., New York; Philip
Stockton, President of the Ofd Colony Trust Co., Boston I R. C. Morse, of Jackson &
Curtis, Boston! H. J. Fuller, Vice-President of Fairbanks, Morse & Co., New York, and
Bradley W. Palmer, of Storey, Thorndike, Palmer & Dodge, Boston.

The present company and its predecessor have conducted the business for the past
thirteen years. The present management, under which net earnings have increased
from $490,000 in 1906 to $3,192,000 in 1916, is to be retained, and a broader policy for
the expansion of the company' business is contemplated.
Net earnings for the yetr ending December 31, 1916, were $3,192,646, or over $14
per share on the total capital stock of the new company, to be presently issued, after
deducting interest. For the eight months ending August 31st of the current year, the
net earnings (without allowances for taxes) were, at the rate of over $4,500,000 per
annum. The company's earnings normally are heaviest in the last four months of the
Calendar year. t
Sales of razors have increased from 403,877 in 1912 to 781,632 in 1916, and of S
blades from 2,459,330 dozen in 1912 to' 6,369,425 dozen in 1916.
The credit rating of the present company U the very highest. It has never bor
rowed money and has always had abundant working capital to properly develop its
' business. It has carried one of the largest bank balances In New England.
It is the'intention that dividends will be inaugurated at the rate of $7 per share per
annum, tho dividend dates being quarterly, March, June, September and December.
A very large proportion of the issue having been placed privately, we offer subject to
prior sale, the remaining shares, when, as, and if issued, and subject to the approval of all
legalities by our counsel, at $80 flat per share.
