De ralr to the men rejected to publish their
names and also that many objections and
disturbances could be avoided by keeping
tho names out of print
"After talking things over," said Mr.
Sayres, wc decided that It would be beat
not to publish names In nil fairness to men
who are being examined until after the
boards have decided upon exemptions."
Despite Mr. Sayres's sudden "covering up"
of the names In the first two Camden city
districts, nearly complete reports were ob
talned yesterday in the Third and Fourth
Districts. In tho First District, Judge Wit.
Ham T. Lloyd, tho chairman, allowed the
newspapermen to obtain such Information
as was available, but the reports were
turned over to the general board as soon as
a dozen or more examinations had been
made, and Sayres refused to allow the
newspapermen to see them
,In..th Sccond District, President Ralph

Officials feel that several additional calls

Is obtained. Fully 75 per cent of those ex
amined yesterday were physically dis
qualified or claimed exemption. Of the ex
emption claims, the largest number was
i the ground of wife and dependent chil
dren, while claims on industrial grounds
ran a close second.
Tho county boards did not get under
way until yesterday afternoon and it was
midnight before tho Sccond District had
examined Its day's quota of 120 men.
In tho First District, of which Sheriff
Joshua C. Haines Is chairman, twenty
thrco men cut of 80 wern ncccpted and
certified to Trenton. County Clerk Patter
son declared that at tho present rate It
will be necessary to call an additional 160
men to obtain 120.
There were many amusing and pathetic
scenes In the examination rooms. In ono
Instance a negro, who had sweltered In
the heat awaiting his turn, left the build
ing nnd returned In a bathing suit.
"This am the mos' comfor'ble mannah
to wait till I gets up stahs and gets mah
clothes off," he explained.
Another man was asked as to his present
physical condition. "Had," he replied. "In
what way?" he was asked. "Well, I've had
nervous prostration for the last month,"
wac the frank answer, much to the amuse
men of those present.

The Secret Meeting
With Von Tirpitz
TOMORROW'S installment of former
Ambassador Gerard's account of
his experiences in Germany tells how
the Prussian chiefs tried to make the
United States the cat's-paw in their
1915 "peace" campaign.
Mr. Gerard recounts the steps of these
mysterious negotiations, which included
a secret midnight meeting between him
self and Von Tirpitz, the "father of
submarine warfare."
