Mrs. Alexander Hamilton nice, who was
the wife of George D Wldcncr, one of
those drowned on the Tit ink, was operated
upon for appendicitis nt Mlramer, her New
port homo, on Thursday. Reports from
Xewport today Fald she war recovering sat
isfactorily. Dr. and Mrs. nice came back to the
United Statei late last spring from an ex
ploratlon tour of the Amazon. They havo
been living at tholr llta In Newport since
that time and hae been entertaining ex
tensively. They gao a dinner last Mon
day night for Mrs. Hlce's daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs Flts-Kugeno Dixon,
of Kulp House, Klklns Park Her daughter

Two spectacular floats one depleting
the Goddess of Liberty and the other show
ing a real live soldier being "bound up" by
a lied Cross nurse will bo the features of
the Fotterall Square Jefferson. Ambulance
Fund parade to be held today on German
town avenue from Cambria to Diamond
street.
The parade Is the opening number of the
second day of street carnival festivities
held in Fotterall Sqaure to ralso $1650 to
buy a completely equipped ambulance for
llano Hospital No. 38, which Is the Jeffer
son Hospital war unit. Tho two young
men who will man the ambulance when It
goes overseas, Thurston Barrett and Harry
Leveson, are respectively chairman and
business manager of the fund.
Last night In Fotterall Square, which Is
at eleventh and York streets, MOO was
Calsed. One thousand dollars was pre
viously subscribed. -
nivallngthe floats In the parade today
will be twenty-four babies dressed up as
Red Cross nurses. They will ride In baby
carriages mado to look like ambulances.
Two hundred women and children In P,ed
Cross uniforms will also be In line.
The carnival will clnso tonight.
