MIDVALE STEEL, TOUTED CHAMPION
IN THE INDUSTRIAL, AGAIN LOSES;
J. & J. DOBSON DROPS ANOTHER
Lupton Nine Also Is Taken by Surprise When
Philadelphia Roll and Machine Scores Five
Runs in Ninth,
TUB unexpected Is the rule nowadays- In
the Industrial Baseball League. Sur
prises ng-aln were the features In Satur
day's games. The northern division ap
parently Is furnishing the fireworks with
regularity, and Mldvale Steel Is trying to
figure out how American Manganese Ilronzo
trimmed their star cast, 0 to 2, and how
the heavy-hlttlng outfit managed to collect
but a single hit off Pitcher Walsh. Tlio
clubs are keen rivals and to himfblo Mld
vale was sweet revenge for Manganese, as
Mid vale won easily In their first meeting
For the first few weeks Mhlvalo and
Dobson were cleaning up all opponents and
were tied for the lead, not having met de
feat Now they are near tho halfway
mark with four victories and three de
feats and sharing third place with Keen
Kutter, whloh boasts the same record. The
Simmons Hardwaro crowd has played con
Blstent ball throughout and their threo de
feats wen eyelash decisions, which means
they are due to play an Important part in
the race. Dlsston has Increased Its per
centage and now hojds a fair advantage In
the northern division.
Hess-Brlght with seven straight victories
In the southern section, easily leads. Lup
ton up till twtTweeks ago was In a tlo f r
the top, but two defeats have hurt their
standing. They had Saturday's contest
with Philadelphia Roll and Machlno well
In hand, when their opponents sent flvo runs
across In the ninth and won out, 10 to 1).
All the southern section games wcro close
affairs, Hess-Brlght gaining a G-to-G ver
dict over Miller Lock; Houghton winning
from Quaker City. 7 to C, and Ward de
feating Barrett, 4 to 1
With Bill Morgan, formerly of the t'plnnd
Delaware County Leaguo team, on tho tiring
line, Jenklntown endeavored to halt the winning
treak of Glenslde In the Montgomery fount t
League. The affair was on of tho most sp i -tacular
ever staged In it' Montgomery, ti'it
Glenslde won as usual nnd now his eight vt'
torlea and no defeats Willow Grnvo broke Us
losing streak at the expense of Tort Washing
ton and won, 1 to 0, after twelve Inning". w II
low Drove had three hits against eight for 1 ort
Washington.
Chester addd another victory to Its number
by defeating Media for the third time. 2 to 1.
In the other Pelawaro County League battle
Upland found little trouble In disposing of Brill
a to 0 "Chief Bender was again on the mound
for Upland and demonstrated his cunning of
former days. Three tluky hits were, tho sum
total of tho Brllllans' efforts Bender was cred
Ited with seven assists and fielded his position
In fautless style.
Fern nock finished tall-end In tho Philadel
phia Suburban League last scar, but there Is
no club In President Hackney's circuit that has
been able to defeat Cliff Sellers' squad to dtte
Olney holds second place In the standing, nnd
both setbacks were administered by I cm Hock
On Saturda- the leaders won again. B to 0. and
now have undisputed possession of first plic.
Oak Lane, Olney and Llndley are closelj bunched,
however, which adds Impetus to tho race.
King 4 Co. Is finding It no easv proposition to
(hake off the Lennox combination in tho Phila
delphia Shoe Manufacturers' League and the lat
ter continue right on the heels of the cham
pions. It was thought Itegal Company would
halt the mad flight of the King crowd on Satur
day, but they fell down badly and lost. 7-1
Lennox had a picnic with Edwards nnd won,
10-8, Lalrd-Schober had a chance to climb Into
first division, but fell back when they were
beaten by Smaltz-Ooodwln, 12-4.
There Is the promise of a merry scramble for
the first-half pennant In the Main Line League
as a result of Autocar's defeat by Wayne The
verdict waa 3-2, and Mayer, twirling for the
winners, allowed hut four hits, not an Auto
ear player hitting safely until the eleventh ses
sion. They were all extra-bvise clouts, however,
jacket getting a two-bagger and Pitcher I'n d
Blum a double and triple. Mayer nnd Ilium each
fanned eleven, the former glWng foua passes and
the latter none.
Three teams share top place in the Northeast
Manufacturers' League, Quaker City. Prank
ford Arsenal and F. It. Plumb all having won
ilvo and lost one. The surprise of Saturdiv s
eonteat waa the lacing handed Abnslve Com
pany by Frankford Arsenal, the latter winning,
10-1, and tumbling Abrasive from the lead.
Magnolia has assumed the lead In tho Camden
County League by defeating Lucas A A.. 3 1.
Woodfynne'a 1-0 victory over Berlin A. A
boosted Chew to a tie for second place with
Lucas, and It looks as though these two wero
due for a merry scramble to capture the cham
pionship, an nearly all the games between them
nave been decided by a. alnglo tally.
With Cotter on me mound for the first time
gU season, Camden A. C had little difficulty
defeating Pottstown in a return engagement
' 9 to 1. Mason, star of tho Atlantic e Ity
Railroaders, waa on tho mound for Pottstown
and was found for eleven safeties while Putts
town managed to get but four scattered hits
Strawbrldge & Clothier was handed Its first
defeat of the season In the form nf a 3 to 0
coat of whitewash by McNIchol's Logan Square
aggregation. It required eleven Innings to
