evidence) yesterday mid for n pnrt of the forenoon today. Tho price movements
In tho early trading reflected vigorous efforts on the part of tho bearish room
traders to forco liquidation, but the amount of tans stocks that wasbrought
In on various raids was too small In volume to have any influenco as a market
factor. Tho professional clement, however, continued to hammer and attack
group after croup of stocks until It became apparent that the buying power
under tho market was too broad and vigorous to bo affected In tho slightest
degrco by theso efforts.
Later In tho day knowledgo of pending dividend payments brought In other
buyers, nlthotigh the Sticct was not generally Informed of tho Important action
to bo taken by many of tho Industrial corporations.
All kinds of rumors hnd been circulated previously when bear raids were
In progress with tho Intention of causing uneasiness, but no nttentlon was paid
to tho bearish statements, while tho market gave a quick and substantial rcsponso
to all bullish incentives.
United States Steel common, which sold as low as 123H, had a quick advance
In the late trading to abovo 131. Industrial Alcohol, nftcr selling down from 163
to 15914. rose to nboxo 104, and Bethlehem Steel "B," which started nt 149,
moved up to the new high record of 152.
Railroad stocks also developed a strong tone In tho later trading, with
most interest attached to the persistent buying of Reading, which mado a gain
of moro than 2 points.
Tho bond market showed nn Irregular tone, with some Issues In supply at
concessions, while others reflected Increased demand nnd made moderato gains.
Third Avcnuo adjustment 6s dropped more than 1 point to 41 and Rock Island
Es sold off i to 71. Anglo-Krench fs were traded In nt 9314 to 933.
CURB TRADING ACTIVE, WITH SOME
STOCKS LOWER AND OTHERS HIGHER
NEW YORK. Juno 12.
Business on the Curb was nctlvo today, but with cross movements In
prices In various stocks, giving the market nn Irregular tone. Strength was
displayed In Curtis Aproplane, which was traded In at 3fl to 38, and Air Reduc
tion, which closed yesterday nt 92, rose to 97.
There was continued accumulation of Triangle Film nt 1 to 2, with
most of tho buying representing Inside Interests nnd connected with new
developments In tho company's affairs.
Charcoal Iron ndvanced to tho tidw high record of 9'. Submarine sold
at 32 to 3114, National Conduit at 36s; and 3SV4 and United States Steamship
nt 4?4 nnd 4T4.
There wns a demand In Maxim Munitions becauso of the statements that
the company will receive) a larger part of the army contracts for nrms and
munitions soon to bo awarded.
Oil stock were generally lower, with Sinclair Gulf selling at 32 and 33.
Ohio Oil sold nt 360 and Anglo-American at 18U nnd IBVn. Mining stocks wore
generally lower, with Big Ledge helling at 3 and 2.
Mngnato was steady with sales nt 15-16. United Motor sold at 27V4 to 26.

September was $1 52, the low $1.47ai and tho
final $1,481,4 tTl. 48, compared with $1.51si.
yesterday's final quotations. Tho top on
December was $1.16, tho bottom $1.10 nnd
the close $1.12'4 ft 1.12. against $1.15, the
last price of jestcrday.
Sentiment on the whole was bearish be
cause of t-plcndld growing weather and an
excellent outlook for the crop, which Is
making good progress. Shorts hammered
tho market vigorously, but were run to
co or later, only to display renewed courage
ngaln A leading commission house was a
hcaiy seller and tho bulls met with consid
erable opposition.
In the meantime, the cash article held
finite well, as the supply and demand sit
uation is strong, with stocks light in all
positions. The contract supply here is
21.000 bushels, against 3,803,000 bushels
last 5 ear.
The market at Liverpool was firm.
Trade In wheat was slow and uninterest
ing and the market moved Irregularly, clos
ing easier. The weather was ideal for
growing of spring wheat, nnd dispatches
from Canada said that excellent rains had
saved the crop In the western provinces.
The contract stock here is 4000 bushels,
against 4,111,000 bushels a year ago.
There wcro reports that new Texas wheat
wns being offered for export at Gulf ports
for July shipment.
Tho market at Liverpool was dull and
easier.
The high on July was $2.39, the low $2 30
and tho closo 5 cents lower at $2 33 ; the
top on September was $2.11, the bottom
$2.05 and the closo 1 cent lower nt $2.08.
There was considerable realizing in oats
and, although prices rallied on good buying,
they weakened again and finished well be
low yesterday's last price. Prospects for
the new crop are fine.
