Important advances were again the or der In the steel market during the last week, with pig Iron and scrap material com peting for tho leadership. Predictions of furthtr upturns In these branches of the trade mado In this column a week ago were fulfilled with a vim. In pig Iron the tone has been stronger than at any time heretofore. And sales In all of several hundred thousand tons have been mado, according to the best esti mates In the trade. The feature of tho market has been tho sharp advance of Bessemer Iron In Pittsburgh, where sales were consummated at better than $50 per ton, and the quotation now generally asked Is $60.96 per gross ton. Somo sharp advances have been made In old material duo to tho demand which Is of sufficient proportions to take all the offerings. Sellers are again forcing thi buyers to come to them with their needs Leading steel and Iron Jnterests are emphatic In stating that the upward move ment In both these branches of trade has not reached the apex. They base their opinions on the fact that the demand Is abnormally large and make the point that so long as this condition continues prices will move toward a higher' level, LIVE STOCK QUOTATIONS CHICAOO, June 0.HOOS Receipts 10 nnn t?5'oVm!!;H?t ,lowi '"dy; ml"d and butchers 114.95&15.75: good heavy, 415015 so" ,S heavv. llKiaiaia. n.hi ' tTJ nni?;Iv.. rough Jlo.60rti4.6O-. hulk. lIs.lKsS.n'..'""-'"'!
