NEW YORK, Juno 4.
With n business clay Interjected between Sunday and tho holiday ordered
by tho Htorlc Exchange on account of registration under tho United States

bo confined to n. largo extent to tho professional traders and to tho uptown
bear plungers Tew of tho Important operators were on tho Street, there being
a general disposition to remain nwny until Wednesday, nnd tills absenteeism
left many stocks In tho control of thoso always disposed to work for lower prices.
These Interests found Incentives for bearish operations In a flood of
dlsciulctlng rumors, most of thm referring to war events and no ono of which
was confirmed. They wero effective In answering tho purposo for which they
were circulated, Inducing somo pressure against many of the leading Issues, nnd
their Influence was reflected In a generally lower rango of prices at tho end
of tho day.
Special weakness was shown In tho Marino Issues because of tho fact that
tho annual report, piescnted nt tho stockholders' meeting, made a disappointing
showing of net earnings for 1916.
Marino preferred was unsettled and dropped from 83.; to 79$., nnd tho
common Bold down from 2D", to 27i. United States Steel common ranged
from 128ft to 128, and tho railroad list generally hold off under small offerings.
Uethlohem Steel "H" was exceptionally actlvo nnd strong, moving up four
points to nbovo 138. Industrial Alcohol, nftcr selling down to 1384, rallied to
abovo 139. Tho trading was so professional that no significance could be
attached to tho various prlco movements.
Tho bond murkot showed n generally firm lone, with Anglo-French 5s traded
In nt 93'4 to 934. und a number of the Industrial Issues were In demand nt
slight fractional gains. Missouri Pacific 4s sold down from G14 to CI.
