REACTIONARY TENDENCY DEVELOPS
IN TRADING ON BROAD STREET CURB
NBW YORK, May 28.
Tho reactionary tendency which was reflected In sharp declines In many
Issues on tho New York Stock Kxchango today was also In evidence on the
Uroad Street Curb Price movements tn that market were Irregular, with many
stocks selling nt moderate losses, but a number of Important Issues, at the same
time wero In good demand and recorded substantial gains
The munition stocks attracted attention, with Maxim Munition selling nt
"V, to 2', Air Reduction, after opening at S.rW. dropped to 834. Thero was
continued good Hading In Triangle Him, with Inside accumulation in connec
tion with the putting through of the program of cost reduction. It was
Insisted by thoso who are familiar with tho affairs of tho company that it
will soon bo placed on a dividend basis. It moved with the rest of tho list
today, reacting to 24.
Standard Oil stocks wero quiet, with Ohio Oil selling at 3S8. Independent
Oil stocks wero generally weak Merrltt Oil ranged from 284 to 264 and
Sinclair sold from 35 to 34U-
Mining stocks weie irregular, Magma falling from 484 to 4G Magnate con
tinued strong, with sales at 89 nnd 90 cents. Big Ledge was another strong
feature, selling nt 34 and 4 About 15.000 shares of Ohio Copper were traded
in at 'i to 4. United Motor dropped from 324 to 314.
RusBian 54s sold nt 78 to 704. and the C4s were traded In nt 85.

At no time during the whole day s trndlng
on the Philadelphia Stock Kxchango was
there nny great nmount of activity. Most
of the trading which did take place was In
tho morning session, and after midday only
a few Issues came out. The tone of the
market was pretty much the same as that
ruling In Wall street, there being a show or
strength In tho morning which was followed
by a reaction Jn the afternoon
Tho recession In prices, however, was by
no means general, many Issues maintain
ing ft small gain over the closing figures of
Saturday This mado tho list Irregular.
The widest gains wero in the arbitrage
group, and of these, Heading, although It la
listed on tho local exchange, but tho major
ity of the trading taking place In New York,
registered tho widest change, gaining 34
points at the high This high price was hot
held to the close
With tho large turnover In the stock In
Wall street again today It was natural to
expect thnt United States Steel common
Would be tlio most nemo here After regis
tering 11 gain In the morning, the stock
showed ft loss In tho afternoon nmountlng
to more than 14 points The stock moved
over the same coiirso In New York, and the
selling of It there was said to be by large
operators who were taking their profits In
oriler to accumulate some of the railroad
