"Washington today to help speed up mobil
ization of the unit. It was announced that
probably the Commercial Museum building
and grounds would be used as barracks and
drill ground.
Another Philadelphia unit a regiment of
pioneer engineers began recruiting today
under Major J. C. Oakes. U. S. A.. In t ho
TVIthorspoon Hullillmj This unit will be
Used In construction work, whereas the en
gineer regiment's duties will consist of fur
nishing motle power for crippled lines of
communication In northern France.
Tho pioneer regiment, uccoidlng to piano.
Will follow the engineer regiment, which Is
to be recruited to a strength of 106S men

Today was a brisk day for every bratit.li
of the service, the week opening with a re
cruiting boom i;ight-slx husky recruits
for the army were sent to Port Slocum this
afternoon Applicants swarmed Into the
recruiting station of the navy, niatine
corpi and naval coast defense reserve, the
arms of the service promised the first btush
with the Kaiser's U-boats and sea-raiders
