Th brings tho total of tines Imposed so far this year to approximately $31,000, tho highest for any quarter In the history of tho city. The fines were compiled and recommended bv Chief William II. Corfnell. of the Hureati of Highways, who on Monday loses control of street cleaning, which automatically passes to Kobert C Hicks, who heads thn new lluteati of Street Cleaning. They were approved by Director Datesman, of tho Department of Public Works, who sev eral times In the past has rescinded parts of fines Imposed upon Senator Kdwln H. Varc. Truet o precedent. Vare Is again penal ised a much larger amount than contractors doing work In outlying sections of tho city. The total of lines Imposed upon him for failure to have the required number of men at work and the proper equipment on streets In tho central section of tho city was $3001.50.
