NEW VORIC. May 11. A poor response
to strength In Liverpool was made at the
cotton opening today nnd trading was vir
tually without feature The one was steady
mid prices were 2 to 6 points net higher.
Liverpool wns a moderate buyer and
some of the old bulls took all the options
on n small scale. Bears, however, con
tinued to fight 'against nny advances. A
fairly good supply name from southern
Interests.
After the call the market became more
quiet and prices by the end of the first ten
minutes had reacted 2 to 3 points merely
because of the small outside demand.
Scattered selling, promoted by the out
look for warmer weather In the belt, was
readily absorbed within a point or two of
tho opening figures, and the market held
steady during the middle of the morning,
The firmer tone In tho stock market may
have been responsible for scattered Wall
Street covering, nnd this seemed the main
factor in a narrow market There was some
New Orleans buying here also, and mod
erate support from bullish sources on which
the active months sold from 13 to 17 points
net higher.
The enrly afternoon advance carried July
to 19.08c and October to 18 96c. or net
advances of 2C$f32 points, respectively.
July contracts were offered more freely at
the advance, with the result that Its premium
oxer October dropped to 70 points, as
against 80 early In the week.
The exports for the day aggregated 4471
bales, all to Great Britain. Total shipments
thus far for the season have been 4,741,265
bales, compared with 1,088,391 bales for tho
corresponding period last season,
