One hundred and twenty-two mar
riage licenses 'today. There were
ninety-two recruits.
Tlecrultlng started In with a vim today
In nil branches of the service. By 11
g. in. the army had recruited fifty men;
thirty had signed up for the navy and the
marine corps had an even dozen.
All the recruiting officers said It looked
like tho banner day since the call for
recruits went out.
At tho navy lecrultlng station, 1210 Arch
'itreet, appeared a lad who went away
disappointed, but with tho firm resolve some
day to bo a hero. Ho Is Alexis Thompson,
of Thirty-fifth street and Powelton avenue.
He Is a second year student at Central
High School, and Is only fifteen. He wanted
to enlist as a seaman's apprentice with the
Idea of thus preparing himself for An
napolis. Commander Hand was unable? to accept
the boy's proffered services because of his
7outh. With the eager lad was his father,
A. S. Thompson.
On July 21 next, Alexis will be sixteen
and eligible. He said he would be back
that day, the first one In the office, too.
