FINANCIAL NEWS
MAJORITY Ob TRADING IN SPECIALTIES;
LEADING RAILS AND INDUSTRIALS QUIET
Sinclair Oil and Midvale Steel, Just Transferred From
Curb, Active All Through Day Suspend Dealings
in German Exchange
High Points in Today's Financial News
Speculative interest in ,Wall street, centered in specialties, with very
light trading in leading railroad and industrial shares. Business smaller on
Curb. Wheat hit new top marks.' Cotton closed irregular. Price of bar
silver lower. Gold shipped to Cuba and Spain. Midvale Steel listed on New
York Stock Exchange. . ,
NEW YOItK, March 29.
Nearly nil tho speculative Interest In today's stock market wns centered
In a number of specialties, flie leading Industrials nnd railroads being company
lively nulet nnd prlco movements In Issues llko U. S. Steel common wero con
fined within nn unusually narrow range.
Tho two stocks Sinclair Oil and Mlilvnlo Steel which were transferred
from tho Curb becauso of being admitted to the list by tho governors last night,
weru prominent nil through tho day's trading. Sinclair Oil advanced 5!i to
C9i and held most of this gain nil "through tho day, but Midvalo Steel sold
down 1 point to 694, and after a moderato rally closed with Ilttlo net change.
Wilson & Co., which had been strong slnco tho beginning of the week, mado
an advance of 6 points to 83. American Hldo and Leather issues wero
stiong In tho forenoon, both tho common nnd preferred moving up 2 points,
while American Malting dropped 2 points.
Tho railway Issues wero comparatively quiet, nnd after trifling advances
yielded to below yesterday's final prlco. United States Steel common sold
down s to 114, advanced to 1154 nnd then lost most of this gain. Theso
movements were followed by nearly tall tho important Industrials, with few
of tho leading stocks showing much not chango at tho close.
Tho various movements, notably In tho specialties, wore duo to outsldo
buying, tho room traders taking Ilttlo part In tho day's transactions. Some
of tho leading boardroom operators stated that they were not disposed to tako
n positive position until after they wero fully Informed as to tho speech of
tho German Chancellor, which was scheduled to bo released lato this afternoon.
A feature of tho foreign exchnngo market was tho suspension of dealings
In rclchsmarks. Tho leading Institutions nnd bankers dealing in German
exchnngo said that tho fact that wireless messages aro subject to indefinite
delay compelled them to withdraw from tho market, ns they had no knowledgo
of when tho messages would bo delivered, and In tho event of a wldor rupturo
on April 2, before tho messages were transmitted, tho exchango operations could
not bo completed.
Thero was lively trading In many of tho bond Issues, with Poro Marquetto
Cs showing a strong tone and advancing to 05. Chesapeako and Ohio Cs
were also strong and fractionally higher. Anglo-French 5s ranged from 92
to 92!,.
BUSINESS BECOMES SMALLER ON CURB;
GOLDFIELD STOCKS ATTRACT INTEREST
NEW YORK, March 29.
Thero was a falling off In business on the Broad Street Curb, Indirectly
due to tho fact that two of the most Important stocks In that market, Sinclair
Oil and Midvale Steel, were transferred to tho New York Stock Exchange. This
left tho market without two established leaders and mado tho tone generally
variable nnd prlco movements Irregular. Some Interest was attracted to the
Goldfleld stocks, and business In those Issues, which are designated as "penny
shares," was at times extremely large. The copper stocks were fairly active,
with somo Issues showing a strong tone.

The inquiry as to 'Average time from receipt of
