started this morning the liquidation by commission houses was only In dribbles
Union Pacific, which dropped Hi to 134, quickly recoveted n good part of
its lots, and comment wus made on Uio fact that the heaviest eelllng by anv
jingle broker amounted to only JiOO shares, Conitiilssioii-house selling In' other
stocks was confined to blocks of 100 and i!00 shuies In most cases.
It did not take long for the quiet buying power existing to ubsotb the
supply and start a vigorous rally. The bear element, however, seemed to hope
for better results from constant raiding, and vigorous attacks were made nt
frequent intervals during tho day. making the market movements consist f
alternating declines and rallies, but with nearly everything traded In showing
gome amount of net gain at tho end of the day.
Business wan fairly active In the bond market. wlh prices of tho lallway
Issues holding well In view of the disturbing announcements made by the lallvvny
unions. Rock Island refunding 4s weie traded In at 7X4 to "72. Anglo-French
( sold at 924 and 92H.

CURB PRICES ARE NOT AFFECTED
BY STRIKE THREAT OF TRAINMEN

The Curb market was hot In any way disturbed by the announcement of the
railway unions' program, and although there were many stocks that weie In
supply at concessions, the declines recorded weie not due to any uneasiness
ever Uie railway outlook. Somo of Ihe war-order Issues. In fact, showed pro
nounced strength, with Marllu Arms advancing from 9 to 94 and Mldvnle
Bteel moving up from K6H to 57.
Submarine was again weak, selling down to22',4, and Wright-Martin Ahciaft
j!ued from 8U to "..
Oil stocks were generally lower, with Menitt ranging from 24 to 23 and
Blnclalr declining from CG to G5. Cosden Oil, ex dividend, sold at 14; and 14".
Tha motor stocks were Irregular, Chevrolet advancing from 116 Ho 121V4, while
Fierce-Arrow dropped from 4fi to 44. United States Ituliber 5s declined to the
ntw low record of 91 U, followrtl by a rally to 92','j.
The mining stocks were Irregular. New developments were genrally favor
able with the successful operations of tho Big- I-edge smelter, which, Is now
running at full blast, and regarded with a good deal of satisfaction. Authorized
abatements were made that a steady output of ore was going to the smelter from
both mines. The stock sold today at 59; and r-. United Verde was traded In at
Mtf, Butte Copper and Zinc at 10a to 10i and Hay Hercules at 44, and At.
