has generously and nobly responded.

up their causa by conducting n wonder
ful campaign ot publlalty, such as only
a great paper can do In presenting
strong and forceful facts from day to
day and Is still doing so which has
awakened tha Interest and thereby won
the general publlo over to the cause of

which Battalion Chief John J. Mesklll Is
chairman, nnd the oltlten' committee,
headed by William C. Lynch, which pre
sented a petition wlgned by nearly 1000
business and professional men, taxpayers
and property owners to Mayor Smith, are
working with' redoubled energy and active
co-operation to secure favorable action
through popular support.
In addition to members of tho Methodist
Preachers' Aesoclntlon, who have set 'apart
December 17 ss "Firemen's Sunday" In
their churches, efforts aro being mad to
make the observance general among clergy
men of other denominations. The matter
ot adopting "Firemen's Sunday" will he
brought before tho Baptist ministers at
their weekly meeting on Monday, nnd the
rrrsbyterlan pastor, as well as thoso of
other creeds, will be asked to co-operato
in the movement. The plan outlined Is to
have tha pastors, through their sermons or
In other suitable ways, bring to the notice
ot their congregations the condition of tho
