iUNDAY'S Public
contain the story of George C.
Boldt's rise from a menial posi
tion to that of owner of the Bellevue
Stratford and president of the Waldorf-Astoria
Company.
It reads like a page from "The
Arabian Nights" and has a particular
interest for Philadelphians, since Mr.
Boldt founded his fame and fortune
with the old Bellevue Hotel on Broad
Street.
In 1904 Mr. Boldt combined the old
Bellevue with his Stratford across the
street and called the new hotel the
Bellevue-Stratford.
John Jacob Astor, impressed by
Mr. Boldt's abilities, made hmi a
proposition to manage a hotel in New
York the Waldorf-Astoria,
Two huge hotels, international in
fame and a fortune estimated at'
millions these were the rewards of
a man once a waiter. Read his story
in Sunday's Public Ledger.
