nounced In Utah Coppor, In which thero wns a mni.i of buying orders In tho
hands of a crowd of brokers gathered around tho Utah post, and It was quickly
evident that thero was not a single selling order In the crowd. This mado many
of the brokers with buying ordors arrango with tho upcclnllstB and traders to
mako sales at tho opening without waiting for the prlco to be fixed.
As noon as tho gong sounded tho leading specialist In Utah Copper hid tho
stock up one point nt a time until It reached 127. At that prlco this specialist
sold about 3000 shares. It li hard to bollovo that such a condition could exist,
ail that of no selling orders bolng on specialists' 'books within n ranga of C
points In such an active stock as this.
Naturally all tho other coppor stocks followed tho lead of Utah, making
gains of 1 point or moro. After tho first sales of Utah tho prlco reacted to

largo buying orders In that stock (illicitly exhausting tho offerings and putting

this morning, May and July wheat rallied
Above yesterday's close. Sentiment was
affected by further embargo talk and In
activity among exporters. The market at
Liverpool was dull, but steady. News was
scarce.
December opened at J 1.78 H to 91.78,
against 11.78 at tho close yesterday, and
lated sold at S1.7SK ; May started at Jl.85
to 1.85. compared with $1.854, yester
day's last price, and after receding to
il.Sf.i rose to 11.8GT4 ; July was quoted
at $1.65 Vi at the outset, unchangod, and
after declining to $1.55 moved up to $1.65,
Later the market dovolapcd weakness
Under active liquidation, duo to a drop at
Winnipeg and fears of unfavorable diplo
matic developments.
At, the outset corn made a small gain on
some buying by commission houses, but'dld

exception of a slight shading further In
rubles, the foreign exchange market In the
early dealings showed little feature. Busi
ness was at a minimum and the tope fairly
steady, although Teutonic exchange waa
at the low points of the week. The usual
steadiness was apparent in sterling and
francs. Pesetas retained a firm tone and
thla was true arso of Scandinavian ex
