NEW YORK, Nov. 22. BuslneHS was materially smaller on the caU at tlio opening In the cotton market this morning, Influ enced by favorable Liverpool cablos, tho tone was firm, with prices 5 to IB points net higher. Liverpool was a good buyer In this mar ket, and prominent room operators also purchased, while Wall street nnd commis sion houses sold. A moderate demand came from New Orleans, After the early demand was supplied, the market eased oft under larger offerings, and at the end of tho first ten mlnutci of trading prices wrre 7 to 10 points under the initial levels. After the early brenk to 20.52c for Janu ary, or about 12 points from Inst night's close and 60 points under the high record of yesterday morning, the market rallied 10 or l.pobits on covoring and a renewal ot bull support. The tone remained very nerv ous,, however, and prices cased off again later under renewed liquidation. Later In the afternoon the market be came weak under Wall btrcct unit other liquidation due to a sharp rise In Marino Insurance rates. Prices shortly after 2 o'clock were off about $2 a bale from yea-, terdny's close and $5 a bale from tho high point ot Tuesday. Numerous stop orders were uncovered on the setback. Every little bulgo seemed to meet in creased liquidation and tho market weakened again early In the noon hour with active months making new low ground for the movement. January contracts sold oft to 2Q.47o and May to 20.000 or 1! to 17 points net lower and about 52 to 65 points under the open ing prlco of yesterday morning.
