6, while October was 9 points down. There
was only small trading jn JJcrcmbcr, with
no supply, and tho strength "of January wan
duo to a purchaso of 10,000 bales by a
prominent spot house from one of the Im
portant traders.
This trader, however, was a good buyer
of the later options. Dcmapd came from
pot Interests, southern houses and Wall
street, while tho selling wps dpne by com
mission houses, Liverpool and room traders.
However, there was no great supply of tht
lata options and the market Jn all had a
steady to firm tons. After tho call there
Was some rearrangement of prices, Janu
ary falling 7 points, while Jtureh rose 3
and May 4 points.
There was a lot of cotton for sale around
20,60 for May contracts, but It was ab
sorbed bn reactions to 20.45 for that posi
tion and the market showed Increased
Strength late In the flrst hour on continued
trade buying, covering and fresh buying for
long account. Tho advance carried May to
20.85, with active months generally selling
about Jl a bate abovo last night's closing
figures.
Reactions of t to 12 points followed and
the market was somewhat unsettled after
Ji o'clock, and it was less active during the
nooit hour.
The tapering oft In demand from shorts
led to an Impression that the technical po
sition had weakened and reactionary senti
ment was again In evidence. Sellers
showed no aggressiveness, however, and
prices held steady within or 7 points of
the beat.
